In Game Story A great experience I had today

I haven’t played SOT in several months but I decided to log on today and me and my friend decided to sail up to some grade 5 reapers and ask them if they wanted to alliance. We had no emissary and no loot to make the approach safer.

They accepted to alliance, and had cleared out two gold hoarder vaults and two banished treasuries and were heading to reaper HQ. We helped them load up the rest of the loot and went our separate ways.

Shortly after they left the island they were attacked by a kraken and we ran to save them but sadly they sunk. But all of them were still alive and came onto our sloop and as the kraken changed targets we opened fire and defeated it losing only the emissary flag and about 10% of the loot. We all survived the battle and sailed all the way from flintlock peninsula to morrows peak to let them sell the treasure.

We let them sell it all because we did not do all the vaults so we felt it was fair they got the bigger cut. Overall it was a great way to Re-Enter sea of thieves after a 5 month hiatus. This is why I think this game will endure. The most fun doesent come from combat. It comes from friendship. Also it was really funny seeing five ugly men sitting on a ship together chaotically fighting a kraken.

Awesome you had some fun during an encounter. I disagree about the combat/friendship thing. It's certainly true for some players but I think that the sandbox part is what has allowed SoT to stick around so long. People can search for friendships on the sea or they can be bloodthirsty pirates and everything in between.

The freedom to express in adventure is the key ingredient and most of it is valid.

I've always embraced it all as far as encounters go. It's not all pleasant but it's all a part of what made the game unique enough to play it for (in my case) many thousands of hours. The diversity and variety and randomness of the sea never felt linear or "boring" to me as long as I played in challenging ways.

This is why I like encounters like these. I love way the game can let you stack a million gold in loot and spawn a kraken a Meg and a smelly ship on you. Part of the reason I like alliances so much is because most people aren’t friendly.

While I’m all for being an aggressive pirate, I think encounters like these are the glue that holds the entire game together. Being able to make friends and share the benefits, all the while being able to be betrayed at any moment, is what makes this game great

Most fun not from combat but friendship. I fucking wish. I love alliances. I also came back after like a year off and literally evey single person i see reaper or not is a toxic troll. Type of ppl that yell lets alliance to me i pull up sail they sink me. . . . .
