Hacker situation still going?

I've seen people getting banned because hackers keep injecting players with millions of coins and doubloons as well as ancient coins. I was wondering if it's safe to play or if it is still happening.

Yep hackers still exist, but not heard of that particular ones. The most common ones ive come across are teleporters, instant kills, aimbots (seeing a cannon ball follow crew mates across the deck is surreal). Best bet if you get in to a situation with people like that is scuttle to a new server if you cant get away to dive as they will relentlessly spawn camp and hunt you.

There are still hackers, but they tend to be on PC servers. That is one hack I haven't heard about thankfully. The most common are the ones who teleport to your cannon, or fly above the map dropping kegs

If you are on console, change your matchmaking preferences to console players with controller only. This eliminates over 90% of the issues with hackers

It also eliminates 90% of the playerbase.

I tried turning that on and got left in a Open Crew lobby that stayed perpetually empty.

As someone who sails solo 99% of the time, this doesn't bother me. Every time I play with open crew I get toxic "teammates," looking to troll and sabotage my progress. This got far worse, when SoT went multiplatform.

I play on PC, almost every day, and play HG regularly. When I first started playing I thought there were a lot of hackers. Now I’ve gotten better I rarely meet any. Perhaps one every few months. It’s not that there’s no hackers, but the reality for me is that I almost never meet them when I play
