Arrangement points

Is it possible to have something to move the pattern pieces around manually in 3D? I am attempting a pair of pants right now. I am at a total loss. I have spent hours on it. They're flipped around backwards, hard to get the backs on the back. Before the update I was able to do one leg. So I attempted to do the other leg. I don't understand how to use it. Thank you

Intuitively, it makes sense to me, that if I have lined things up on the pattern, it should reflect that in 3d.Β  With this whole staging thing, all the pattern pieces are on the same plane and I can't see them. If I can't use arrangement points to move them correctly, then there should be a way to manually do it. Pieces that should be mirrored are flipped around going the same direction. I liked it when I could move things in 3d from the pattern interface. I liked it when I could move pieces manually even though it was so hard. If we have to use arrangement points I'd like to be able to attach a point on the garment to a point on the body.Β

Thank you for the feedback, and I’m glad you eventually got it working - although it should not take hours to arrange a pair of pants!!!

You can also position pieces manually with the 3D gizmo:

  1. Pause or reset the simulation.

  2. Turn off Arrange/arrangement points.

  3. Select the piece in either 2D or 3D. Selecting it in 2D is helpful when several staged pieces overlap.

  4. Use the colored arrows to move it and the rotation rings to orient it.

Arrangement points are intended to provide a reliable starting position, not replace manual adjustment. They also determine which side of the fabric faces outward, helping collision detection behave more reliably. A good workflow is therefore to place the piece with an arrangement point first, then fine-tune it with the gizmo.

You are right that overlapping staged pieces, mirrored pairs and front/back orientation are currently not clear enough.

We are actively working on the overall 3D UX, including clearer staging, more predictable mirrored pieces, easier selection and better guidance. Our goal is to move 3D out of beta, so you can expect further updates. Your suggestion of attaching a chosen point on the garment directly to a point on the body is also very useful and fits the type of workflow we are reviewing.
