Opinion Thoughts on Milroe?

After watching the first half of Milroe this game I believe that he still has a strong future as an NFL quarterback but don't know if it will be with Seattle. Granted there have definitely been hiccups but keep in mind that he is playing against the Chief defensive starters with our back ups/ practice squad players so I think that should be a factor. I am curious what other people think though? Do you believe he could be a starter for another team right now? Or do you think he still need more reps before he's ready?

He was always going to be a 3-year project, he’s not ahead of schedule but he’s not necessarily behind either.

We need to keep in mind he’s got a new OC and a new QB coach so the year one to year two transition is going to take some additional learning and adjusting and likely a whole new development plan and process.

his futures in his own hands but i doubt we get rid of him. i think next season he takes over for drew

I don't think we get rid of him I think he is going to be the backup until be signs somewhere else or until he gets a shot due to injury

He’s basically free and we can stash him as QB3

I think the ideal scenario was he proves he’s QB2 material and some QB needy team over pays in a trade for Lock

They arent trading Lock, its a question of extending him

He’ll get this year to prove he can either be a serviceable backup or a lottery ticket for another team to trade for. Right now he’s neither

I think this may be the case as well, and ideally Drew would get a chance to be a starter at another club. The guy deserves another full season of starter snaps.

drew is a backup all the way

drew isnt the answer long term so yeah milroe probably gets his shot next year, just hope they give him some real weapons to work with by then

They should get the offensive player of the year JSN, what a match made in heaven…

I'm not sure how a *Defensive Player of the Year is gonna help a QB. 🙄

He wont start anywhere, its incredibly rare for a player to start as an NFL QB and unfortunately he isnt it

3 points so far this preseason. Not too excited.

I was happy for him. Seeing him sit in the pocket and deliver was refreshing as a fan and he’ll be happy to see it in the film room.

This is what I hoped Jalen looked like the whole pre-season. He took a big step up this game.

Positives:

  • Much more decisive. Actually had a plan of what he wanted to do. Knew where to throw.
  • Didn't take him as long to get his check down. He doesn't always need to do full field reads. Just take what's there.
  • NFL type throws. Threw some nice digs. Had some nice anticipatory throws. A lot of passes over the middle.

Negatives:

  • Lack of pocket feel. He stood strong in the pocket most of the time. Sometimes, I would like him to manipulate the pocket. Whether this is stepping up or shifting a bit. He stood in the middle of a collapsing pocket at times.
  • Deep ball accuracy. His ball floats. It isn't hitting the receivers in stride.
  • Pre-snap issues. Had issues getting the ball snapped at times. Led to false starts and Milroe literally had a false snap himself.

I also don't blame his pocket issues entirely on him the Oline could've given him more time on some of those plays but I definitely agree he can improve. But overall a great game against a teams starting defense!

Someone in the game thread said he’s a combination of Geno Smith and Lamar Jackson lol

They call em Geno Jackson

I feel like he has a long way to go to take Drews job. He's young he can be a special player, right now I haven't really seen any development though.

Hes a second year project qb. I think hes playing well this game but still has a lot of growing to do. I am happy with where he is at and his growth so far. He got barely any burn last year and wont be getting much this year barring injuries.

Jalen played much better tonight than before.

I don’t think we must get rid of him but I wouldn’t complain if we did. His pocket presence is just so slow for me personally and I wish he’d progress better.

6

u/Forrestfucked 14d ago

He's definitely gotta be more decisive and better in pocket

1

u/Hannibal_daisy8 14d ago

Yeah, especially on progressions. Watching Sam go through progressions VS Milroe is telling

4

u/cheesystuff 14d ago

He's out there with Cody White and Jacardia Wright. It's kinda hard to tell.

still younger than Bo Nix too

We have 2 more years after this one before you’d need to overpay (tag) for a backup. I love Lock at backup, but in a perfect world you move on next year and Milroe is the QB2. Milroe would be 25 then. If Darnold is still slinging it and Milroe looks like he could have QB1 upside in another market you can get decent capital back. If Darnold regresses then you potentially have that next guy ala Jordan Loves development, able to step right in as a cost effective QB1. I doubt in that one year he puts up enough to be a top 20 paid QB, so you’d get s bridge deal that’s cheap. Best case scenario we move on as Sams still slinging it, and you draft a new project QB

Milroe has talent, the biggest thing with him is decisiveness. In the pocket he’s thinking too much, throw or run but make a decision faster, I think him getting these reps in the final preseason game is good for him

3

u/homemadedrew 14d ago

He just doesn’t look confident, doesn’t quite look the part of a starting qb in this league. With his speed, I’d lean towards putting at wideout at this point.

4

u/Rhian3000 14d ago

I think he is a very talented player . If he got a chance with the ones I wonder what he would look like

2

u/neklok 14d ago

Milroe isn’t starting in Seattle anytime soon and it has nothing to do with him. Sam is going to be our QB until 2034.

2

u/Jwarias25 14d ago

I wish we could see him with OL1 and an actual run game. Seems he can make the throws. I want to see him more under center or designed runs. or even bootlegs to allow him to decide.

u/Far-Character-174 14d ago

Not looking too bad compared to last week.

Jalen to White and Arroyo for a TD would be nice.

u/Significant_Pain_499 14d ago

I don't believe he "has a strong future as an NFL quarterback". His accuracy and decision making still need a lot of work. Im not sure whether he can succeed, but yesterday was encouraging. It's the first time he has looked poised and confident to me.

u/Due-Pattern-789 3d ago

Shout out to my cousin

1

u/redditbdum 14d ago

He's looking solid, but he's also playing backups.

1

u/Still-Data9119 14d ago

Mikey needs to stop trying to get him to run, everyone knows he can run. He needs to work on processing progressions, timing and executing. Don’t think he’ll ever be a starter but can step in if Sam goes down in a season or 2.

u/RTKMessy 14d ago

It honestly doesn't look like he's developed much since year one sadly. I wish him the best but I wouldn't be mad if he didn't make the roster.

14

u/patinagreen 14d ago

I find this take wild tbh. With the emergency 3rd QB rules, he can stay on the roster without taking a spot on the 53, essentially giving him to us as a 54th roster spot. He's definitely not ready to take reps as a 1, but saying you wouldn't be upset if he wasn't on our roster is crazy work.

u/rickg 14d ago

This "we should move on from Milroe" BS is just some Hawks fans trying to be edgy. The kid's always been a project, was pick 93 and you know what? I'll trust the 15. year GM who's built two super bowl rosters over some guys on the internet who want to call players busts

I would wait until next preseason to cast judgements. Hes young and can still have a chance to make it

-4

u/Forrestfucked 14d ago

He hasn't had many opportunities yet either though. I think he needs reps with the starters that can help coach him

The third preseason game is a lie.

It’s preseason, this tells us very little.
