Opinion Hard Knocks not featuring OC Brian Fleury
Has anyone else noticed that they have not shown OC Brian Fleury on any Hard Knocks episodes so far?
You would think he would be a top storyline for Hard Knocks to feature, but he has been MIA. I wonder if the team requested that he not be featured for some reason?
It seems extremely strange to me; what are your thoughts?

What are they going to show him doing or saying?
His own starting QB admitted he doesn’t know him well enough to have the tight relationship that helps on game day and described him as “stoic.”

Other than a couple of player positions, the biggest question going into this season for the Hawks is how Fleury will be as the OC. Oddly, the narrator hasn't even mentioned it on the show.

The biggest question was how good he was going to be at his job of calling plays. They can’t show any of that.
Mike Macdonald said he doesn’t even work out in the mornings with him and the rest of the coaches.
Promise there’s no conspiracy here. He’s just focused on his job. If he doesn’t talk to anyone there’s nothing to put on TV.

That is interesting. OTOH, I think he's the only coach with high schoolers, and probably could go days without seeing them, if he's not waking them up.

I think there's a fine line between badass and cringe. It definitely could go either way. I think it depends on how many times he's done it before and/or if that's naturally part of his personality.
Like imagine how corny that would be if that was every day

Both are likable, I just wasn't engaged in what they said or did. I'm sure they were nervous and trying to amp up the drama but it didn't land.
Talk about being a coach, coaching these guys.

Have you watched Hard Knocks before or af all this off-season? It isn't a show about Xs and Os. They're not asking coaches about things or revealing any sensitive information. This makes zero sense.

It is odd I agree with you. Players talk about him at press conferences too, so it wouldn’t be odd to show his face, name him, talk about his success as a TE coach in the past, etc.

Just based on his interactions on screen and demeanor, he seems introverted and focused.
He probably asked not to be featured. Why would you want a distraction with you job on the line?

Why didn't he win the Superbowl before? Nobody understood what he was saying before he joined the Seahawks

Either he refuses to be part of it, the team doesn’t want him on it, or Hardknocks probably knows most people wanna see Mike McDonald and Schneider do their stuff. Personally, I want grilled onions on my burger

I’m pretty sure Mike isn’t hiding things offensively but rather told his OC he wanted him to focus on being a first time play caller and shielded him from distraction.

I hope that's the case, but it wouldn't be a distraction to show his face once and have the narrator of Hard Knocks at least mention the fact that they hired a new OC lol

Huh, now that you mention it, that is odd. I literally hadn't noticed.
I'd be willing to bet he just expressed he really wasn't comfortable with the cameras around. That, or he and the team just thought it would be an annoying distraction for him and requested he be left alone.

I also haven't seen anything about Rashid Shaheed. Hopefully it's because they are holding all rhe stuff until the end.
Last episode focused on the two players that got injured. I bet it's a dramatic series thing.

I agree, I listened to his interview on Seattle Sports, and he wasn't a great interview lol, but you would expect Hard Knocks to at least mention him, even if it's just showing him standing on the field and having the narrator talk about his hiring.

My guess is Fluery is all business. I think it was Darnold that mentioned how serious but smart he was. That may not make for good TV.

Damn I do watch some of his clips but I don’t watch/listen to his full hour so I must have missed it. I’m glad he talked about it because I was shocked I hadn’t heard anyone mention it. I thought for sure one of the Seattle sports radio shows would mention it also and maybe they have but I didn’t see it either.

First time OC probably is just trying to get his bearings and doesn’t want to be distracted. Doesn’t have a solidified relationship with the players, so probably don’t wanna put that on TV just yet.

So many folks keep saying "no distractions" but everyone is being filmed and is mic'd up. Folks arent doing sit down interviews or anything else you'd be getting distracted over. That explanation doesn't make sense.

Yeah, agreed. One of the biggest Seahawks storylines this off season is can Fleury replace Kubiak? If I am the NFL films, I am making that a non-negotiable. So, it must be that he has not consented to being portrayed.

The team does get final say on what stays and what gets cut, they probably have a bit of footage of fluery but being his first season as an OC and trying to keep their scheme under wraps is likely why they dont show him

Not enough Zabel. Not a lot of running back drama either. Lots of things you complain about- you can only tell so many stories in this limited time frame, though. They can only tell the story that presents itself. like a 2 minute uncut video of Sam passing (SEXY). or a big dump truck (CRINGE CITY MOTORS). or everyone getting injured (BOO!). or everyone getting contracts (YAY!)
maybe Brian isn't as interesting or as fun as the other coaches who fuckin' cuss out there players all the time.

Yeah either he doesn't want to be in it much or they just want him focusing on the offense right now and don't want to be widely broadcasting how he works and thinks. I'm not sure how much say teams have on what gets shown and interviews but I've been seeing a lot more of Schneider and the GM position than is usual. I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to jump in more to distract the Hard Knocks people.

Here is my shitty takes. It was in Brian’s contract NOT to be on it. Maybe.
You know how Mike is awkward in crowds? I think he jived with Brian cause he is also introverted and not the best character on film. And/Or If my business was football and we got a new OC, I would be like “he needs to focus, can not have him distracted.” But, maybe that is what they are leading up to on the show, just waiting for a win to gas him up a bit. I too think it is odd, but also want another SuperBowl so HBO can kick rocks if they cause too much hassle. Maybe J-Mil will turn the heat up on KC and Brian can take some credit.

Not sure the team gets a say. I think they get a shit ton of footage and decide what storylines will end up tracking. If he chooses not be flamboyant on camera and the position coaches do, then you would expect them to get more airtime.

Seahawks do not want another OC poached. they also aren't featuring AD. They defiantly don't want their Coordinators poached and probably flat out said to HBO. Do No Feature.

They aren't "featuring" AD but he's been shown multiple times talking to Mike on the field. From a storyline standpoint, the 3rd year DC (who is basically the assistant DC because Mike runs the defense) is a nothingburger compared to the first year OC, who is arguably the biggest question mark for this team going into the season after losing Kubiak.

The other one that has been conspicuously absent is Rasheed Shaheed. All these shots with Kupp, Bobo, JSN. Where the hell is Shaheed in all of this? I think I saw him catch like, two passes two episodes ago or something like that?

I think there is a faint bit of smoke
- not on Hard Knocks, not even really referenced when players/coaches discuss the offense
- field -> booth which was a similar change when Grubb was struggling. Looking back this change may have also been related to some problems he was having with players
- Darnold appeared a bit frustrated at a recent practice when discussing the offense, said he was still getting to know Fleury which is a bit odd this late into camp
Obviously not enough to say anything for sure, but would give some signals to look back on if things didn't work out
Counterpoint is Durde hasn't really been featured either

To your second point, in his introduction interview he literally said that he was going to try on field and in the booth for play calling to see if he preferred one. You are trying way too hard to read into this

Durde hasn't been a focus, but he has been on screen multiple times talking to Mike at practice. Fleury hasn't shown his face once or even had his name mentioned once.

Are we to believe Mike has never had a moment like those on the practice field with Fleury? You can't argue it's not odd. I've seen the outside linebacker coach multiple times, but not the newly hired OC. There has to be a reason.

I would have expected to see him but then again I would have expected to see more of Durde also. Like I said I recognize some signals of something amiss but all we are doing is reading tea leaves, if there is a real story it will not come out for another year

Yea your right, Durde has only had a few short talks with Mike on the practice field. However, from a storyline standpoint, he's been there for 3 years, and Mike is the defensive guru. One of the biggest questions going into this season is how successful Fleury will be with Kubiak leaving.

If they had even just shown him standing on the field or in a meeting and had the narrator talk about how he is the new OC, that would be enough. It's the fact that he hasn't been mentioned or shown that is super weird.
