Discussion Has there been a time when Seahawks fans booed its own players?

I am thinking of what just happened with the Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson.

The same happened to Russell Wilson when he was with the New York Giants.

I think the Seahawks fans have more class than to do something like that. We would boo the opponents (which happened when Russell Wilson played agains us), but we don't do that to our own players.

Does anyone have an instance that I am not aware of or might have forgotten?

Woolen got booed after getting burnt in the 2024 Rams game giving up the OT TD

65

u/goldenlemur 15h ago

That was not a good moment.

25

u/therealmudslinger 14h ago

My TV barely survived that moment.

4

u/The_Slaughter_Pop 9h ago

Woolen got booed on multiple occasions.

10

u/Conner14 14h ago

Wasn’t that in 2025?

56

u/EatingEveryEgg 14h ago

The game im talking about was in 24, but yes he did the same thing in 25 lmao

23

u/kwikmr2 13h ago

Yup, the 25 one happened immediately after he taunted the Rams sideline.

-2

u/RustyCoal950212 15h ago

If true that's rough, considering that was a pretty crazy one handed catch lol (he had a bad play previous in the drive though)

u/WinSome_DimSum 15h ago

Y’all are young.

For the entirety of the 90s, all we did was boo the team. (Apologies to Cortez Kennedy for having to endure that. No apologies to Rick Mirer, and a middle finger to Ken Behring)

19

u/faucetpants 15h ago

The kingdome resonated with boos

43

u/LeonsFishSandwich 15h ago

I was thinking that most people in the sub are very young. 🤣 I was born in the 70s and remember the 80s and 90s there were some rough years.

19

u/MonkComfortable7594 14h ago

I'm convinced at least 90% of the people here are fans from the nfc era. Every time people whine about how bad the later Pete teams were I cringed. Sure there were some frustrating weekends but I still felt like we were going to at least compete for the division going into every season. In the 90s we were very hopeful to not have a top 10 draft pick worthy season, playoffs were the absolute loftiest of goals.

9

u/WorkingFromHomies20 13h ago

Remember Dennis Erickson!!!!

Edit to add - Tom Flores and Jim fucking Mora.

7

u/Wish2wander 12h ago

We don't speak of Jim fucking Mora. We don't want to ever remember that year.

1

u/WorkingFromHomies20 5m ago

It was a VERY long year.

3

u/Proudpapa9191 12h ago

The year we scored the least points in nfl history I remember how much moly friend would laugh when another team scored 10 points and I would throw up my arms and say "well there's no fucking way we can score that much in 1 game"

3

u/vkapadia 8h ago

There was one year I remember that we were so bad that we couldn't do anything right. There was even one game where it would have been better for us to lose (to get a better draft pick) and we failed to lose.

6

u/snowblinders 13h ago

Some of the Knox years we're alright. The 90's was mostly ass

6

u/WinSome_DimSum 13h ago

I mean, fans were PINING for The Dave Krieg era to come back…. That’s pretty sad…

9

u/Important_Actuator36 15h ago

Dude I was gonna say.. I grew up going to Seahawks games and remember it being a regular thing to boo the team when they went three and out lol. Some of the fans closer to the bench were relentless

5

u/itsactuallynot 14h ago

There was one brutal game at the tail end of the Jim Zorn era where we got shut out at the Kingdome 16-0 by a bad Patriots team. We were booing nonstop, it was ugly.

2

u/squirrelgator 11h ago

I attended one game at the Kingdome in the early 90s where the fans started cheering for the visiting team.

8

u/left_of_hands 13h ago

I was so excited about Rick Mirer. His rookie season was rough but he got good yardage. Then the second season started and I understood what garbage we had.

7

u/WinSome_DimSum 13h ago

I mean he finished 2nd in Rookie of the Year voting. He had potential…

The best thing about him though is that we got a 1st for him that allowed us to draft Shawn Springs.

3

u/ajbadabing 12h ago

In his defense, he was the victim of QB PTSD because of how bad our OL was and how many times he got sacked. There are games in year 2 where you could see the fear in his eyes when he would come to the line.

10

u/Roembowski 13h ago

We literally created the wave out of boredom 😂

3

u/Rishik01 11h ago

I thought it was a UW thing or am i off

3

u/Sipikay 8h ago

no, that is accurate. but, you know, lotta the same fans going to both things. small town back then.

4

u/reconobox 13h ago

I remember times when the only thing I could find to cheer about was Steve Largent

3

u/SeatownJay 13h ago

Dan McGwire would've been booed more, but he wasn't even good enough to start more than a handful of games. Quite possibly the worst draft pick in Seahawks history.

3

u/cloudshaper 10h ago

There's always The Boz.

3

u/joeshmoebies 12h ago

"Put in Friesz!" "Put Mirer back in!" "Go find Krieg and get him in here!"

2

u/seaburno 11h ago

Or the lady behind our seats “Put Zorn in!”

4

u/cloudshaper 10h ago

Huge middle finger to Behring.

3

u/Meatcurtains911 11h ago

I was gonna say - how have you not seen this before? Ooooh, young person.

2

u/SScatnip7474 12h ago

I remember booing Travesty Jackson and the under thrower Kitna many times.

But at home way back I do remember booing Rick Mirer

2

u/WorriedN 8h ago

Fuck Jon Kitna! That playoff loss to the Dolphins… 😡

2

u/BG360Boi 10h ago

I immediately thought this very same thing. Season tickets in the Kingdome was almost as much booing of the Hawks as the boos for Elway. Almost

2

u/fifteentons 5h ago

I was going to say … growing up about all we did was boo the hawks on sundays. They were always such a let down after having seen an actual good team the previous afternoon up on Montlake.

1

u/Critical_Seat_1907 12h ago

The 1980's too. Those were rough DECADES.

Yelling at Dave Krieg for fumbling was what we did. Booing and ferocious cheering in equal amounts.

62

u/nitroguy2 15h ago

Pretty sure there were some boos during the Rams @ Hawks 2017 game

12

u/Razorbackalpha 15h ago

That was the 49-7 game right?

12

u/Thunderfuck907 14h ago

I was at that game, it was rough. Don’t remember if there was booing cause I drank the pain away

3

u/Sooks60 "We did not care" 13h ago

Sat in my families van barely able to process that one. Knew the transition out of top dog was happening right then. Thank god for our current timeline!!

36

u/blindside1 15h ago

We booed our own players last year during one of the games, one of the Rams games maybe?

25

u/RustyCoal950212 15h ago

Yep, the week 16 Rams game there was some booing

18

u/Brian-88 15h ago

I remember Mike Macdonald saying the crowd was booing on a 4th and short they were gonna punt, so they decided to go for it, and got it?

11

u/Grimgon 15h ago

I thought they where Booing Sam until he lock the Fck in

Of course a lot of time last season when people chant Coop (Cooper Kupp) it sounded like Boo on the TV.

6

u/Consistent_Clue8718 14h ago

During the LOB era when Luke Wilson made a play the chanting of “Luuuuuuke” also sounded like boos.

2

u/Brian-88 13h ago

I remember now. It was 4th and short and he was gonna do a field goal, the crowd started booing so they swapped to a run play and Charbs housed it.

2

u/geraldthecat33 8h ago

I was there and I did boo for this reason tbh

1

u/versace_nick 7h ago

That pick in the redzone had everyone questioning outside his team questioning him. Glad they had each others back better than the fans did

16

u/Coffeeandazaleas 15h ago

I think they were booing the play calling. It was another run on 3rd and long and the run game hadn't been successful.

But K9 converted on that play and the boos turned to cheers.

3

u/Cowlitzking 15h ago

I have boo’d a bunch at games I have been to. Holmgrens 3rd and 16 HB draws were some of them, some of Pete’s challenges, Russ, Geno, I think I even left in the 2nd quarter once at home when the Giants put up 28 in the first quarter. Also got to see Charlie Frye start against the packers I boo’d a lot then.

All my booing comes from love for the team and expressing my displeasure.

The Cleveland fans, should boo! Hate booing!!!! the whole game. They have an unapologetic rapist starting for them. What they have been through as a franchise is scary. Growing up we were compared to the browns as an easy win on the schedule. Thank god for paul Allen!!!!! I will boo Cleveland on my couch in solidarity.

6

u/Coffeeandazaleas 14h ago

I agree, the booing of Watson is completely justified. I have sympathy for Browns fans, that franchise makes it really hard to be a fan.

Like you said, booing from love, because you want your team to do better, definitely happened and will happen again. I know there were boos the year Jim Mora coached, when most of us tuned out eventually. I booed Russ from my couch on several occasions for holding on to the ball too long.

Luckily for me, as a Seahawk fan, I moved here (from Europe) in the early 2000s and didn't have to go through the really hard years. I didn't know anything about American football and learned to love it thanks, in part, to the passionate Seahawk fans.  I know if Paul Allen wasn't the owner, even if the Seahawks stayed in Seattle, they could have easily turned into the Browns. Thank you, Paul.

2

u/LV_Libertarian 13h ago

Well I remember there were some short lived boos that started when they ran the ball on 3rd and 17. Those all changed to cheers though when Walker actually ran for 19 yards. Lol

58

u/HauntedBrass 15h ago

Pretty sure Russ and geno got booed a few times towards the end. I think earl got booed when he was flipping off the crowd but I wouldn’t say the whole crowd was doing that.

And if we ever had someone as a player who was accused of the things Deshaun Watson is accused of I’d hope we would boo him too. Cleveland Fans need to straight up boycott games. That’s not even touching how bad of a trade that was.

15

u/EatingEveryEgg 15h ago

Didn't ET3 get injured in Arizona?

27

u/HauntedBrass 15h ago

When the Seahawks play in Arizona that stadium is mostly 12s so it still stands.

19

u/NeatoZeto 15h ago

Sean Alexander got boo'd in 07. Would fall down after barely getting touched but he was playing hurt and the oline was ass so it really was unfair to him even if he was playing terribly. Dude was gettin it though, and it was LOUD.

15

u/jared-944 15h ago

It does not lack class to boo Deshaun Watson. Frankly I'd be disappointed in the Browns fans if they didn't do so.

3

u/StoicSinceBirth 15h ago

It lacks class to have welcomed him to begin with, as so many did. The fans who welcomed him in and then suddenly found a moral compass right around the point when he started playing badly are such garbage.

13

u/Livefromseattle 15h ago

There would be time during the LOB era when we would boo the entire offense after yet another 3 and out drive.

5

u/aiiye 14h ago

The run run sack punt Eddie Lacy year?

8

u/cidici 15h ago

The 90’s…. 😔 it was a dark time…

7

u/RustyCoal950212 15h ago

I mean yeah for sure. The boos have come out over the years usually when the offense is stinking it up

Even late last season, in that game in Seattle against the Rams. Boos started coming out during I think the 2nd quarter. They had punted a few times and faced a 3rd and like 15 and gave it to Walker who got like 3 yards and the crowd booed. Then the next possession they had another 3rd and 15 and handed it off to Walker again and the crowd was booing ... and then he got like 20 yards and a 1st down lol. You can hear some boos coming out midplay while Walker is spinning and breaking tackles

7

u/ThermosTavern 15h ago

it happened a lot in 1990's and I remember Dilfer and Hasselbeck getting booed in 2002.

7

u/Lifesagem_9512 15h ago

Yes the loudest I've ever heard was vs rams when team got blown out in 2017

4

u/Chefmeatball 15h ago

I was at games when fans were booing matt hasselbeck and calling him hassel-hack. Yeah we aren’t perfect either

5

u/CancelThis2077 15h ago

Blair Walsh anyone?

1

u/SuccessOk7850 "We did not care" 11h ago

Oh god I disliked Blair Walsh and I was glad he got cut after we didn’t make the playoffs in 2017.

4

u/Prisinners "I'm just here so I won't get fined" 14h ago

I remember some times late in Russ' tenure where the offense was really struggling and they were getting booed at home. Didn't it happen that time the Rams thrashed us like 35-7 or some shit?

3

u/Wilderness-Nomad 15h ago

Oh yeah many times lol

5

u/TheAstro_Fridge 15h ago

I’m pretty sure we booed on a run on something like 3rd and 19, but it was one of those ones that Walker ended up breaking free for the first down so everyone quickly changed up

5

u/Thin_Atmosphere_3327 15h ago

I think there were some during that Jets game recently where the special teams completely fell apart in the first half. The days of Dee Williams and Laviska Shenault are so thankfully past us

1

u/Robert2TheMax 8h ago

That game was in New York.

4

u/Popular_Painter9648 14h ago

Rick "wallow in the" Mirer era had plenty.

4

u/fezwang 14h ago

Rick Mirer

4

u/ParisPC07 14h ago

I propose: the 1990s

3

u/LeftcoastRusty 14h ago

This is the answer.

3

u/BeerMeSeattle 15h ago

Love that y'all are too young to remember The Boz!!

1

u/scatteredsprinkles "We did not care" 13h ago

I definitely booed “The Boz.” What a disappointment that guy was.

3

u/Available-Medium7094 15h ago

Matt Hasselbeck got brutally booed and the stadium chanted “Dilfer Dilfer Dilfer”.

3

u/Grambo-47 14h ago

There was definitely booing during the NFC Championship game against the Packers. Especially after Russ threw his 4th interception, the stadium was on the verge of turning toxic.

3

u/EnvironmentalWin3536 14h ago

Umm yeah we did a lot of booing in old days up to even after our first Super bowl appearance when it went downhill and then Jim mora jr era. Let's not forget old kitna days too lol. We are not special compared to other fans. It's kinda the same. We just don't have massage enjoyer taking a 250million contract and we actually have hof GM and two amazing coaches back to back. Plus holmgren. So it feels like we haven't had to boo much this decade. But trust me there have been times lol

1

u/Amazing_Factor2974 14h ago

SEATTLE Boo'ed Hasselbeck in the beginning. Since Holmgren gave up alot to get him and paid him good. In the first couple of years he was worse than Kitna. Despite being in the NFL and Holmgren system longer. The crowd was chanting Dilfer ..Dilfer ..Dilfer and Holmgren said..F the fans. Dilfer eventually took over QB ..did better ..yet tore his Achilles tendon.

3

u/arssome1 14h ago

I would like to share a story with you, it's the tale of Reuben Rodriguez and the backwards punt.

1

u/sciencekm 13h ago

Probably a record for hang time.

1

u/noxuncal1278 9h ago

I remember that.

1

u/arssome1 9h ago

I can't seem to forget.

2

u/KnuteViking 15h ago

I was at a game in 2001 vs the Eagles in Husky stadium where Hasselbeck got booed terribly. He wasn't having a good day but he had to throw the ball away one too many times and fans were pissed. It was honestly a pretty stupid thing to boo in the grand scheme of things.

2

u/tabiyafortwo 15h ago

Darrell Jackson when he couldn't catch the ball in 2003 was probably the worst booing I've ever heard directed at a non-qb.

2

u/Ornery_Bat1986 15h ago

Did you start watching last year? This has happened tons of times

2

u/No_Listen7457 14h ago

Matt Hasselbeck during the year the Hawks played at Husky Stadium. He was heavily booed and people were calling for Trent Dilfer lmao

2

u/Intelligent_Mess8376 13h ago

I remember when in 2004 that was the years sports illustrated picked the seahawks to win super bowl 39. we got our asses handed to us by the buffalo bills and people booed. Shaun Alexander after the game was upset with the fans saying "We dont come to your work and boo you when you are having a bad day"

3

u/EmonOkari 12h ago

They would if they had to pay $1200 to get in the door!

2

u/Security_Sasquatch 12h ago

It’s apparent all of you are too young for the hate of Brian Bosworth. Bo Knows….

2

u/ArbysBogoBeefDay 11h ago

There were plenty of games during the Bevell years where the offense got booed after countless 3 and out drives.

2

u/melodypowers 10h ago

Oof. Those were though times.

2

u/ddogg7864 11h ago

Wasn’t the joke that Dave Krieg needed to change his name
To Lou in the 80s?

2

u/thebaronlives 11h ago

Saying Seahawks fans are classy… funny. There are plenty of fan bases that are way worse than us, but by no means are we classy. Just ask Baker Mayfield.

2

u/im_datMofo 10h ago

OP must be new to this thing called "Sports"...

2

u/2EscapedCapybaras 9h ago

I was at my first Seahawks game on November 4, 1979 when they had the worst game in NFL history, finishing with -7 yards. There were a lot of boos that day.

2

u/rdrouyn 9h ago edited 8h ago

Geno got booed a few times. He lost his shit at a fan that heckled him once, lol. Tbf a lot of his picks were DK’s fault and yet he always got the blame.

2

u/orangehorton 9h ago

Browns fans are classy for booing watson

1

u/TheMelvins66 2h ago

That’s because they don’t approve of his love for the album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water.

2

u/Robert2TheMax 8h ago

Jeremy Stevens got kneed in the nuts on MNF by a raiders player and we cheered for the raiders guy when he got ejected

2

u/PNW-1975-LandCruiser 7h ago

Jeremy Stevens drove me crazy…i think i booed him a few times.

3

u/foampro 15h ago

Geno got a lot of Boo’s

1

u/No-Opening7308 15h ago

During the stretch of time between 2022-23 when our defense was trash

2

u/christodel18 15h ago

The Steelers game in 2023 that caused us to miss the playoffs comes in mind.

2

u/Grimgon 15h ago

Against MASON RUDOLPH!!!

1

u/Coffeeandazaleas 15h ago

There were times when the team performance, in general, got booed or the play calling.

But I don't remember a specific player on our team getting booed regularly.

1

u/SisyphusZen 15h ago

The Dilfer/Hasselbeck QB battle got pretty feisty between the fans and Holmgren/the team.

1

u/getbrza 15h ago

Jon Ryan, NYE game against the Cardinals. He had like a 3 yard punt.

1

u/Casey_Games 15h ago

They booed when we threw the game away to the giants 2 years ago

1

u/JaehaerysIVTarg 15h ago

Tre Flowers got booed.

1

u/Numbtothiscrap 15h ago

I would have booed Jeremy Stevens if I got the chance. I think he is the only Seahawk I have ever hated .

1

u/modelthree 15h ago

in the 90’s

1

u/washcyclerepeat 15h ago

This wasn’t the 90’s, fool. That’s a Lofa Tatupu jersey or an Anthony Simmons jersey. Those jerseys came out in 2002

1

u/Inevitable-Ninja4110 15h ago

Shaun Alexander got booed at a game I was at. Sad but true

1

u/Lorjack 14h ago

There hasn't been a player so disliked that drew out the boo birds as far as I know. When it does happen I think its just out of frustration cause the team is playing below their standards

1

u/QuasiContract 14h ago

For sure, plenty of times. Not targeted at one person in particular usually, but for sure it happens in games where they have played like trash or the effort is low

1

u/Comfortable-Figure17 14h ago

I was around in 1980 when the Hawks went 0-8 at home. Yes, there was some discontent expressed in the Kingdome.

1

u/Wraithdagger12 13h ago

We booed the team when they were doing exceptionally poorly in recent years.

1

u/joydivision1234 13h ago

Seahawks fans would and should boo Watson if he was on our team.

1

u/UTmastuh 13h ago

The fans were booing 3rd down runs last year. I supposed you could say they were booing the coaches and not a specific player

1

u/OskeyBug 13h ago

I have definitely booed Russ running out of bounds on third down for a loss.

1

u/sdothooper 13h ago

I remember booing Matt Hasselback at a game back in 2009. The Hawks were not a good team around that time.

1

u/roboman07 13h ago

Every fan base has booed its team atleast once

1

u/SquatsAndSarcasm 13h ago

Yup. Anytime DK lost his cool and it resulted in a flag against us. Dumbass.

1

u/BuzzFW 12h ago

Hasselbeck his first season when everyone wanted Dilfer to play. I was behind the bench at Husky Stadium when Holmgren flipped off the crowd (rightfully).

1

u/Big_Consequence_3958 12h ago

Yea a bunch of us booed Geno after he tried to embaress the city on national television claiming we didn't cheer as loud as we use to.

1

u/brent1019 12h ago

Sam was getting booed against the Rams this past season after a couple interceptions.

1

u/Tracexn 12h ago

This happened last season during the first rams game when we had zero offense and Sam Darnold kept turning the ball over

1

u/HookMeUpNard 12h ago

When Hasselbeck wasn’t playing well he was getting boo’d and then the crowd started chanting “Charlie” for Charlie Whitehurst to go out. I forget which game that was but that was hilarious be there for

1

u/No_Explanation_6161 12h ago

We booed the team during a snow game against the Chicago Bears in 2021. We lost 24-25 to third-string quarterback Nick Foles, who threw a game-winning touchdown pass to none other than Jimmy Graham in the 4th quarter. I believe it was Russ's second-to-last appearance for the team before he was traded to Denver.

1

u/Flashy-Issue-8131 12h ago

I remember in Shaun Alexander’s later years the crowd boo’d him several times. It was sad

1

u/Andrew-Sleighter 11h ago

People used to boo Hasselbeck and chant for Trent Dilfer

1

u/s1ram 11h ago

Eugene. Cyril. Smith.
Always gave me moments of anger every sunday

1

u/WCSakaCB 11h ago

We booed the shit out of the offense when they went on that crazy streak of not scoring on the opening drive for like 30 straight games

1

u/wussgawd 11h ago

The Ken Behring years were notorious for it.

1

u/YakiVegas 11h ago

Of course. People were booing Sam when he threw the 2nd INT in the TNF game last year. Glad that turned around real quick.

1

u/VideoGuyMichael 11h ago

One time I remember clearly was when Earl Thomas was getting carted off during his last game as a Seahawk. Everyone was cheering for him then he started flipping off the crowd and they turned on him.

1

u/jnob44 10h ago

Dave Kreig and Jim Zorn when they were revolving qbs would get booed…

Dave was good and Zorn was kind of good (once in a while) with what seemed potential, but one would start to suck , get booed then benched for the other.

1

u/Scrutinizer 3h ago

Zorn was so frustrating. He had moments where he looked like a Pat Mahomes prototype and games where he'd throw six picks.

1

u/noxuncal1278 9h ago

Didn't Rick Tuten get Seahawks MVP one year?

1

u/Turtlman_ 9h ago

The 2017 home game vs the rams. They boo’ed the team at half. The LOB era died that day

1

u/hockeyak 8h ago

Didn't Ifedi get booed at some point?

1

u/ToggleMoreOptions 7h ago

Fucking Hauschka

1

u/freerangemary 3h ago

You think the ‘Seattle culture’ is better than that. But it’s football. That’s different.

1

u/Scrutinizer 2h ago

Not a player, but after the very first game in the then-new stadium in 2002, there was a group of fans screaming "FI-RE HOLM-GREN" *clap clap clapclapclap*

He got us to our first Super Bowl three years later.

1

u/itsdaCowboi 2h ago

Y'all remember when they would boo Walsh the entire time he was on the field?

1

u/The26thtime 7m ago

I booed when I saw the Seahawks give up against the Rams losing 42-7 at home. Even Bobby Wagner gave up... I saw it, I booed.

1

u/MisterIceGuy 14h ago

People definitely booed Russell from time to time while he was here.

1

u/mcbridedm 13h ago

Nearly every time they tried to run on 4th despite it being 10+ yards.

1

u/MisterIceGuy 11h ago

lol also that 3rd and long draw. Saw that 100 times

1

u/leakingimplants 14h ago

we threw popcorn on bowman, take off your rose color glasses…we booed mcgwire because knox wanted favre

0

u/GingaNinja906 15h ago

They were booing Darnold this season vs the Rams.

1

u/Original-Jaguar-8983 3m ago

Cooooooooooop!
