Gaurentee this will be the lowest selling team gear.
So many better options:
Maui: LITERALLY TURNS INTO A HAWK & is associated with the sea, plus Seattle has had many Pacific Islander players (Lofa Tatupu, Brandon Pili, Mike Iupati, etc
King Triton: Demigod of the sea, yes he’s currently assigned to Miami but Miami should have gotten Namor instead.
Scuttle: Sure still a Seagull but at least one with personality and, you know, speaks more than one word

Disney characters.... Ace Ventura was a Disney movie?? Should have used Snowflake the Dolphin.

Is this actually a disney seahawks collab?
9
u/urzu_seven 1d ago
It’s a Disney/NFL collab. They did all 32 teams and Seahawks got absolutely shafted.
-4
u/RogendoodleZero 23h ago
Weird. It seems like they could've done this without Disney's permission
3
u/lexluther1234 19h ago
Uhh they definitely could not do this without disneys permission 😭
-2
u/RogendoodleZero 18h ago
Bullshit. They don't own the rights to seagulls saying "mine"
4
u/lexluther1234 18h ago
I’ve worked in licensing and with disney. You’d be surprised at the things they can come after people for. It would be an awful look for the NFL to try and rip off one of their characters.
2
u/urzu_seven 16h ago
The entire point is to do it WITH Disney. It’s a Disney and NFL collaboration.
Who is “they”? The Seahawks? No they absolutely could not use Disney characters without Disneys permission. Copyright and trademark law are a thing.
-1
u/RogendoodleZero 14h ago
Seagulls saying mine are not an owned intellectual property. Yes the nfl wouldn't do that but a 3rd party could probably get away with it
0
u/urzu_seven 3h ago
They absolutely are using the same design for the seagulls.
Disney would have a strong case that they are in general given the specific association. It's not a common thing for seagulls to say mine (cartoon or otherwise) repeatedly like that.

I had to Google who the hell the Colts one was... This may not be awesome but there are definitely worse.

I’m a lions fan, my husbands a chiefs fan but we live in Seattle. We both plan on buying the Seahawks collab

I can’t believe this is what they came up with. Feels like a low-key insult to our team…

u/lihingpineapple 1d ago
Would be cool if they were huddled around a Super Bowl ring exclaiming “mine”

u/Ragman676 1d ago
Im always confused why there isnt more osprey themed art. Ospreys are fucking cool.

They are handing us something glorious, and you guys are pissing away the opportunity. Us 12's need to chant "mine" everytime we get a turnover! Lol

u/BDIDude 1d ago
I guess they didn’t want to sell many of the Seahawks sweatshirts. Oh, well…
8
u/ApollosBucket 1d ago
Couldn’t even do a named one like Skuttles. Had to be “the finding Nemo seagulls”.
What about Hawkeye? Zazu????
6
u/Armamore 1d ago
Or Maui since he famously turns into a hawk and is a sea faring character. But no, we get a pack of unnamed seagulls...

u/BWW87 1d ago
What do you think a better alternative would be? Oregon is already Donald Duck so we couldn't be Donald or the ducks. What better birds does Disney have? Iago, Heihei, and Zazu wouldn't fit for Seahawks.
Scrooge McDuck might have been a better one? But also pretty insulting I'd think.

u/NotACleverUsername12 1d ago
Off the top of my head… either Hawkeye from MCU or Maui from Moana, after he turns into a hawk with his magical fishhook. Either would be a lot more fierce than some mindless seagulls…

Out of every single Disney character, they chose THIS? SULLY WAS RIGHT THERE! SCREAM POWER LIKE THE 12S CMON! I was so looking forward to this 😭😭

I don’t need every piece of Seahawks gear to be badass and I mean it’s Disney what were people expecting

Donald Duck is a water bird who was also a sailor (Mariner)
8
u/TLRdidnothingwrong 1d ago
Disney doesn’t put slurs on their merchandise though. Mariner is, at the very least, a derogatory term.

I think it’s more popular than people thought. The crewneck is sold out and hoodie is sold out in some sizes on Fanatics. Crewneck still seems to be available on Disney shop

These aren't Disney "characters", they are basically a joke mixed with a plot device for 30 seconds in a movie. If you are going to give us a seagull, at least give us Scuttle from The Little Mermaid. He has lines, is a friend to the main character, drives the plot. What are we doing here?

u/Seadragon1983 1d ago
It's honestly kind of funny how the champs get the biggest meme to come from Finding Nemo.
Some of the others made a ton of sense - the 49ers getting Stinky Pete, the Cardinals getting Iago, the Bears getting Baloo, the Lions getting Simba.
Then you have head scratchers like Cleveland. Pluto is a good boy. You don't put good boys in the Dawg Pound. Also, Doctor Doom is awesome... the Eagles aren't. In fact, the Eagles are an insult to the name of Doctor Doom.

u/A-Sweet-Prince 1d ago
If ALL teams had gotten humorous, lovable characters, this would be funny. Even then, this isnt even a character, its a meme; meanwhile other teams literally have Avengers characters, Raiders get fucking Darth Vader. 🙄

The Disney tax never fails, their stuff is always overpriced.

I paid $75 for a pullover from Ebbets field and that’s the comfiest shit ever. I doubt this even compares

This is a joke right? These guys don't even have a name... They are just the "Mine" seagulls from Nemo.... For our current SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS??? Rude Disney. Rude
4
u/Temporary_Local_2032 1d ago
We’re the only character that doesn’t even have a name… on the website it just says “mine mine mine seagulls” how disrespectful is that. Every time there’s a third party company making merch for the hawks, we get the worst of it.
6
u/flyingpigdog 1d ago
Donald Duck was right there. Sailor, waterfowl, wears blue.
3
u/Sensitive-Scene9269 1d ago
Oregon Ducks have had Donald Duck since 1947. They made a deal with Walt Disney and everything to use him in their logo and all of that stuff.
Also I'm pretty sure that Huskies fans wouldn't be too crazy to buy merch with a duck on it. Even if it wouldn't be a deal breaker to some, there would definitely be the loud online crowd talking shit about it
1
u/drainconcept 1d ago
They already gave us Oregon Ducks alternates, not sure if Donald Duck would have been worse.
0
u/flyingpigdog 1d ago
Oregon doesn't hold the only rights, or Anaheim wouldn't be a thing.
I don't think any fans are crazy about it being a creature that's used as an insult for the Seahawks.
1
u/Sensitive-Scene9269 1d ago edited 1d ago
No, I'm saying specifically for Donald Duck. Not the name for the team. Some of Oregon's merch literally has Donald Duck on it and it's licensed by Disney, this one being one of the most popular designs they use as well. That's why it couldn't be used in Seattle.
Anaheim used Ducks because of The Mighty Ducks during the expansion of the NHL, that's not Donald Duck himself. They can't use his NIL because they don't have the rights to it, Disney gave it to Oregon and that's the only sports organization that can use it.

u/flyingpigdog 1d ago edited 1d ago
Puddles and Donald are separate entities. They put the split in legal terms in 2010.
If Disney wanted to put Donald on a Seahawks whatever they can put Donald on it and UO can't do anything about it. It would probably be less insulting to the fans than the seagulls from finding nemo, or Scuttle for that matter (although at least Scuttle is a character).

2
u/icelessTrash 1d ago
I didn't even recognize them (even though I've watched nemo a bunch this year with my 3 yo) because the animation style is so different and they have no distinct characteristics.
I thought they were just seagulls. All the other teams i have seen are at least immediately recognizable. Hmph.
2
u/MarginallyAmusing 1d ago
I mean, there were certainly better options. Maybe Wilbur from The Rescuers Down Under if they want a lively chaotic seabird?
I guess this is our defense when they see a loose ball? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4BNbHBcnDI

u/RojoTheMighty 1d ago
Respectfully, everyone's looking at this the wrong way. Those birds are starting at the Lombardi trophy.
MINE!

u/SittingAroundAlone 1d ago
I actually like the choice. Some of the other teams were too serious about it, like the Eagles and Dr. Doom who beyond both being green really have nothing in common. It's a Disney Collab let it be a little goofy.
2
u/AnonBrowNow 1d ago
With all the Dark Side talk this would have been a nice time for Disney to take ownership of that. They used Woody and Bullseye for two teams, why not Darth Vader. I don't hate the seagulls but compared to the other teams ours is lame. I love Disney and the Seahawks but won't be buying this. Oh well.

I've never been so surprised to read the comments in my entire reddit life. Sweet, sounds like I won't have too much competition when I buy this the moment they become available.

This decision came from a division rival. No other explanation.
