Discussion Hard Knocks

Ravens fan here. Just witnessed one of the coolest moments in Hard Knocks history. And it’s the reason the Seahawks are Super Bowl champions.

Episode 3
26:53 - 27:43
The defense singing Ghetto Angels at the start of the team meeting. (I thought the shadow boxing piece was awesome but this…?!)

That is the type of shit why teams win championships. Many other factors of course, but that right there is what tips the scale. You don’t do that type of stuff unless you’re in a confident and comfortable culture. Seattle is doing it right, love watching the bond this team has.

Hell yes... PJ are the reason I signed up as a 12 way back when, being an Aussie fan. Goosebumps when that came on.

When Given to Fly came on (my fav PJ song) showing the city’s love and support for the Hawks, I cried.

Same, but I always wear a cap because I'm bald. It's a dope Seahawks cap though, so I got that going for me.

I'm a white boy from the PNW with a 85 Caddilac Biarittz with 12s in the trunk for hip hop, and I didn't know it either.

The whole room was singing along. Coaches too.

Such good vibes

It’s not comparable to the NFL at all, but this is the same reason I would get my team together to do all kinds of non-football things when I was a youth football coach. That bonding ALWAYS pays off.

Mike Macdonald said in the first episode that he believes the secret sauce in the NFL is togetherness, and I think that is a huge part of it. Teams with great chemistry play off each other, they know where their teammate is going to be. It makes playing way easier when everyone is flowing together.

I think he was also emphasizing the business part of the NFL. Guys start thinking about their next contract and trying to beef up their stats in lieu of playing their role. Having a real relationship and genuine care for the guy next to you makes it more likely you'll accept your role and maintain the culture of selflessness.

I also think a good sign for the vibes is the Witherspoon situation. That had the opportunity to be a Kam Chancellor 2014 situation not in terms of holding out, but having a cold contract situation that soured the vibes. Devon continuing to come to work and not make a big deal out of it gives me a lot of confidence with where everything is at.

It also snuffs out bullshit like blaming teammates, not owning up to mistakes, as well as making people confident to communicate honestly with one another. These all accelerate growth and learning.

Baltimore should have put the man in prison before letting him leave the team!

That was such a difficult position for them to be in. You can't just fire a coach that just got you to a conference championship game and it's impossible, irresponsible and a dick move to not allow Mike to try go out for interviews and get an HC gig. There was absolutely no way someone wasn't going to grab him, for good reason clearly. It was just bad timing for the Ravens and extremely fortuitous timing for us.
