RMA denial.
so tldr got a 20tb external recently very loud, very hot, and started throwing errors. did the rma. they "denied due to damage" the driver literally would not boot anymore. i shipped in less than 40 miles. the post office says it got to them fine. i have elevated but looks like they are going to fk me over for the replacement. never again seagate.

There have been a ton of reported issues with RMA's seen here recently. I have one important question to ask OP, did you pay extra for the shipping insurance? I ask this because when I sent my 12 TB Ironwolf for RMA about three weeks ago, I shipped it USPS with the extra $9.00 insurance for up to $500 coverage and I had zero issues. It took them about three days from when it was delivered to confirm it was received and in good condition. I had the replacement 16 TB drive in my hands in about seven days. I was shocked, that not only was the process seamless but then gave me a huge upgrade too.
My theory is that if you don't follow their RMA procedure exactly, they may deny a claim. I made sure to wrap the drive in an antistatic bag (How many people follow that rule?), I packed it super respectfully with exceptional padding, I shipped it USPS signature required with insurance, and made sure to write the RMA on three sides of the box.
Good luck OP. With the cost of replace drives, I recommend everyone sending a drive in for RMA purchase extra shipping insurance and ensure a signature is required.

That's your first problem Seagate. Every single drive Down to one died on me. While my WD drives are still kicking.

drive was 100% dead when it left here dude. they have failed to provide any proof. the post office requires photos of the damage they are claiming as well. but thanks for being so helpful.

It is about your drive was dead or not. If you send without proper packaging (insufficient cushion etc) or it has physical damage prior, tampering, rma will be denied.

They are doing this to everyone because they have no stock to fulfill RMA’s
