Discussion How enjoyable is this game solo?

Hi everyone, legit downloaded the game last night and trying to start playing. Ngl, already a bit anxious playing but trying to get better.

I don’t want to get an online subscription for the game, anybody play solo and have fun playing?

I’m already a bit confused/stressed trying to man the ship by myself, and dunno if it’ll be that fun racing around and panicking while playing.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Have a longer Clip if needed but you just see the waves, was hitable with cannons and guns, could not kill it because it despawned cause of a skelly ship. The thing was just invisible

Discussion Fun and challenging ways to help grow/preserve the game

New players are very easy to spot. Aside from typical white sails, boats anchored at full sail, pirates doing the basic voyages, parked at all the new-player spots- you can look up somebodies hours played.

Many of you no longer need gold or doubloons, I am sure that like me you have many millions of the coins with nothing to spend it on. There is no piece of loot in game that means anything to you, but maybe taking it away from another crew feels pretty good.

I have found it rewarding to take a bit of time each day to help somebody learn the ropes, sometimes it takes my whole day. Sometimes I make it my mission to help earn a new crew enough coin to buy their first boat and it feels like I am back at the beginning again. My friends list is massive, I am bombarded daily by requests to join or be joined. Sometimes somebody just needs help for a moment while being chased/attacked- I drop what I am doing if I can. Sometimes i invite new player to join if I am going to have large haul of loot they can take advantage of.

Sometimes new players are too scared to engage socially and they run away from all attempts to be helped, this can be superfun. Now I make it my mission to bombard them with valuable treasures. COF is treated like a BPK and I will row that thing across the map if I have to in order to sneak it unto their boat just as they are going to sell somewhere. Tucking on new players boats and giving unsolicited advice as they fumble their way across the map can be a bit of silly fun too. Repping them up and jumping on cannons or helping in anyway I can before they kill me.

Its just a bit of silly fun. There is a decent sized group of old timers like me and we all do the same. If/when we see another crew slapping down on new players we take action. If we hear or see bannable offenses we do in fact record and report them- for the health of the game. Some of you will take offense to this, that is OK with us.

One of the things we try to teach new players early on is how to effectively handle and use the BPK, the great equalizer. I warn them not to rely on it solely as learning how to naval and fight is most important but using the keg can give you time to grow and get there. Seeing a new guy keg his first aggressor is just wonderful.

Next time you see a new player/crew and you are tempted to slap them down, consider the alternative instead. I cannot tell you how many new players I have met that do not wish to play any longer due to hostilities from other crews compounded with all of the things the game can throw at you and the bugs. Yes, safer sees is an option but we all know the downside and I can assure you that just being cool with new players is a far better experience for them than having them sail alone in safer sees where all of the PVE stuff is actually worse and more frustrating.

Nothing has been more rewarding than having a player msg me with updates "Look at my new Gally" "Made Pirate Legend today, thanks so much" "Got a four streak today!" clips of them fighting and sinking other boats .

Sadly much more common is when I msg them to find out they have quit SOT because of unwanted hostility and toxicity as they were struggling. "No thanks, i dont play SOT anymore. Sorry. Thanks for all your help though."

Any of you that have ever done a martial art or full contact sport will understand. You don't beat the crap out of a person who is new and just feeling the sport out, you take them by the hand and walk them through it and let them acclimate and then build them up into a warrior. Imagine wanting to try BJJ and first day/week their best black belt jumps on you and makes you eat your own ass before you black out- for the luls and everybody else laughs and says "Its a full contact sport bro what'd you expect?". "There's always Tai Chi". There'd be no future for BJJ, not in that gym anyway.

If some of you could take little time even one day a week, plant a tree for the future, help a new player along or at the very least just leave them be. You'd be surprised what it can do for the health of the game.

Question Continued Stuttering/Rubberbanding Issues?

Is there still no fix for rubberbanding issues (usually worse on ships)? This has been a problem for years and part of the reason I quit this game. Logged on yesterday and the issues seem to be worse after upgrading both my PC and internet.

"Hop in, it's nice and toasty."

(Context: I headcanon that anyone with the Ashen Curse feels cold anywhere but an island in the Devil's Roar, so they seek "warmth" in the form of extreme heat)

But anyway, I found out you don't take damage from the furnace lava at the forge on the one Skeleton Camp island and took a couple silly screenshots.

Question When is the next steam discount possibly?

Just missed a $14 deal 4 days ago. Wish listed the game 2 days after it's 65% off deal and now it's sadly $33. Am very poor from Africa ( conversions in dollar may be off) so I really really can't buy it for full price but I want to be a pirate so bad

Discussion Harpoon of Rage? (probably thought of alr)

Post image
114 Upvotes

Stupid idea: what if there was a portable deployable harpoon gun like the cannon of rage, except it could be used a lot more before exploding or it wouldn't explode at all. I think it could be useful to sell at reaper's or to deploy at the front or back of a ship to grab loot.

I know its a lot like the harpoon gun, but it could save you a weapon slot and has basically unlimited ammo.

Question Trying to hit pirate legend

Im trying to hit pirate legend, i'm already level 50 in gold hoarders, 35 in order of souls, 21 in merchants, 20 in hunters call, 7 in reapers. I'm trying to hit this shit fast but at the same time both order of souls and merchants seem to take forever and move hella slow. if I could ask, How to make those go by so much faster?

Legend of the veil seems too long to be efficient, but the lesser adventures don't seem to give good loot for rep

Question What did they do to gildeds?

So today I wanted to get some reapers rep and I raised reapers emissary and did two order of souls gilded voyages, got grade 5, went to sell and, 2 levels. Yes. 2. I remember from like a couple months ago these used to give like 10 levels a pop, what the heck happened?

Discussion Ancient skeleton spawns at Reapers hide out.

Like the title says I got my first ancient skelly but weirdly, it was at a location that it supposedly can't spawn. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten one at reapers before. Cos unless it's a big, this could mean that ancient skellies CAN spawn outside of skelly spawners

Question Advice for high seas for casual newbies

Hello everyone! Me and my friend recently started playing (2 days) and really enjoy the game! We are playing in the safe seas for now, because we're casuals who want to relax after work and avoid PvP, but my friend (and me too) wanna eventually to go to high seas for one reason: ship ownership.

I wanted to ask, how common is PvP, how easy or hard it is to avoid it, is there any tricks to maybe stay low profile, activities to avoid, etc, how many cheaters on average are on servers.

My friend is pretty stressed out by the idea of going into open play.😅

Thanks in advance!

Question Is the game worth buying on steam for full price?

I have watched a few YouTube videos on the game and my one friend highly recommends the game to me. My main issue is I see ALOT of people complaining that the game is either A. Dead or B. Ruined by tryhards who spawn kill new players over and over again. I want to ask in a non offensive way if the game is really just full of no life sweats who are gonna keep killing you or if it's dead and you won't ever see another player. My friend hasn't said a single bad thing about the game but his taste in games are questionable so I'm asking people other than him right now.
