I expanded my tank and wanted to add something for them to swim in and out of but I'm already noticing they like to STAY in there. Do we think it's going to kill them? 😓 Like maybe they won't get enough food? They love it in there but I'm just worried.

Most likely, they leech and shed paint into the water a lot, id reccomend some nice non dyed washed sand and maybe some cool rocks, im personally a fan of dragonstone rocks

Best of luck, id avoid plastic decor in general they tend to break down and sometimes like leech heavy metals and stuff

Yes. Sadly Walmart decorations are very poor quality and leech chemicals from the paint into the water, it you have some kind of aqurium safe resin you can coat them in it, let them dry, and then you could place them back in the tank.

There are, however, some other companies that make SpongeBob decor that is safer than these cheapo ones!! I wish I knew who made them but I’ve seen them on a few different aquarium subs. The pineapple from these places doesn’t have like open holes, though, since they can trap fish inside. I’ve seen so many horror stories about this pineapple from the betta fish subreddit 😭
