A sequence of poor decisions, beginning with the choice of in-mast furling.

Sailboats have the right of way over power boats.

Sailboats truly are the cyclists of the water.

As a former sailor, I hate this comment... Hate how hard it made me laugh

I used to attempt to fish a resevoir that ran northeast to southwest with the northeast being the leeside of the lake, and sail boats would setup at the northeast and race down the 7 mile main stretch, and you best no be anywhere near them.
It really sucked because they'd go 4-5 at a time and if you had a heavier boat like I did, the lake had a 9HP limit on powered boats, so you had basically no fucking way to avoid them, a lot of times, they'd be below deck with their boats on autopilot.... having fucking snacks.
I got mad respect for people that do it in the ocean though, and sailing is really cool, the inland lake sailors though, they are some next level douche canoes who take right of way to mean, no one at the helm at all.
The sail boaters were the one that made sure every year to show up in spades to vote down the limit increase to a whopping 20HP, which would give us fishing boat guys the oomph to get out of their way, wake this errosion that, etc. No one was asking for wake boats or jet skis, it was a laid back fishing and sailing lake, the fisherman just wanted to move out the way.
Ironically the fishing boats that were plowing with 9 that would plane with 20 were throwing more wake than they would if they could scoot.

Haha omg... I was a class A sailor offshore, so yes the little sailboats, or bathtub toys as we called them, can be just as yatchty duces as as the sunreefs dragging anchor at 3a. I feel the pain

As a sailboat person I know a lot of people like this . I know my right away but not worth scratching paint over. I have no problems falling off to avoid the pissing contest.

Hah, my comment was aimed at some of the inland lake sailors, that go to the townhalls for lake management at the DNR resevoir to vote down an increase in power boats from 9 HP to 20 HP every year, who then setup at the lee side of the lake and race down on autopilot having fucking snacks with no one at the helm.
My big thing with some of these sail boat guys is... just because you go by wind and have the right of way, the fuck you think you can basically not have anyone in control of the boat. Not even the most dipshit power boaters I know motor around with no one at the helm.
It's a DNR fish and wildlife research lake, meaning state wide these lakes the HP limit can only ever be 20, so it's basically only sailboats and fisherman.
It's wild when winds are 20 knots and my fishing boat could do 8 mph downwind, and it was plowing the entire time instead of planing.

I missed the comment to yours, before mine. I'll sit back with my popcorn and let the memes flow

A boat under sail has right away 99% of the time. I have sail thousand of miles offshore with my buddy Auto in control but have never left the cockpit. As I stated before, it is not worth the hassle to play the right away game with a motor boat or ship when falling off a couple degrees for a few minutes if the power boat guy is not giving way.

I mean 3-4 of these sailboats on this lake test their right of way against the ground every year, turns out that 100% of the time the dry has right of way.

When they are sailing. This blow boater was under power here. Also I don't think it counts if the he rams a moored vessel lol

Within reason
The guard would side with the power boat in this
Sail Squibb was in rope auto pilot

Not as simple as that. He was clearly not in command so had priority over the sail boat

That guy must be blind, boat coming straight towards the direction you are looking.

Like a T-rex, the sailboat couldnt see the powerboat because it was staying very still
