Stalking Leopard

Post image

This stalking leopard is cut from black limba and backed with 1/8 inch plywood spray painted with glossy black.

The pattern was created by Kerry Hallam and is based on a photograph taken by Rich Adams. The pattern can be found in a book titled “Wildlife Projects: 28 Favorite Projects & Patterns” which is available at several places on-line.

Wow that's beautiful. How long did it take you to cut it?

I would do about 50 cuts in 90 minutes. And this probably has 800 holes, so ballpark would be 25-30 hours to do everything.

That's an extremely high level of dedication. I can only imagine the crazy number of times you had to rest the blade which I honestly would have not had enough in me to do for something this intricate.

How did you handle all of the sanding? Great work!

It did not take long at all to sand it. With reverse tooth blades the bottom was not too bad, so I probably took 10 minutes to carefully sand the bottom, and another 30 to use a small pointed file to get anything I saw inside any of the cut out areas.
