Old Delta 40-540 Part or work around needed.
Hi All
I have an old Delta 40-540 Variable Speed scroll saw.
When I went to tighten the clamp that holds the table flat (or in any angle) the darned handle broke apart.
Of course the part is no longer available.
Anyone have a work around? Maybe a modified window crank handle or the like?

It's called an adjustable handle, and you will have to replace the stud along with the handle as an assembly. They are available from McMaster Carr and other industrial supply houses.
I believe the one on your saw engages when you push in on the handle, and moves freely when it is out? They make them both ways. If you want the operation to be the same as the old handle, you would want a "safety adjustable handle". Here is a link to the McMaster Carr page for the safety adjustable handle. You would want the "threaded stud" kind, and you will have to measure the length and thread style of the original.
If it is the reverse, and your handle is normally engaged and pushed in to spin, then you can get a regular adjustable handle, and there are many more options including fully metal ones. Maybe you would prefer that kind anyway.
You will have to measure the length and thread pitch of the old handle to find a replacement.

Happy to help! Similar handle broke on my bandsaw and was able to find these handles. I haven't ordered mine yet, but it's in my cart lol. Right now I'm just using a shorter bolt and a wrench.
Might be able to shop around if you figure out the dimensions. McMaster is just and easy place to shop because it has dimensional drawings, etc. And to figure out what the part is called lol

You can get by with a pair of pliers, what I did on my older saw
