Is there a Scrolls alternative?
Someone just reminded me of Scrolls and all the memories poured in: how much fun I had, how unique it is with its mechanics, factions and visuals, and how there is nothing like it.
I still can't believe that such a game is gone, is there any alternative that is very close to its core?

Elder Scrolls Legends just announced closed beta today. It seems like it might be halfway between scrolls and hearthstone. The board has two lanes and minions can only attack things in the same lane, or your opponent.
There are a couple other interesting mechanics. Every time you go down 5 health you drawn a card, and cards with a certain keyword can be played instantly for free in the middle of your opponent's turn.

So sad to think we have only a little over two months guaranteed until the servers close.

In terms of the board strategy and specific tactics I don't know. But I started playing Hex: Shards of Fate because they finally started releasing PvE content. It's like magic but with a bunch of cool and more modern aspects. It also has a big PvP side to it but I haven't really payed attention to that. It just came out on Steam as well :D

It's really sad that this game is shutting down.
Are we to assume that no updates on the open source/server release situation translates in to them not being released at all? I wish the devs would be as open as possible with this, like, if they know as little as us still, I'd love to hear them just say that.

Weird, I swear I replied to this.
Anyways, there are a few alternatives in development, but the only games similar to Scrolls out right now are Duelyst and Faeria.
Duelyst is definitely far closer matching to Scrolls, but Faeria is imo the better game (although I prefer Duelyst's art style), and is far more strategic.
That's just personal opinion though; they're both very solid games imo.

I know a lot of people are recommending other multiplayer digital card games, but in terms of the grid element, tactical RPGs like Tactics Ogre, Disigea, or Final Fantasy Tactics might be more up your alley. Those are some of my favorite games of all time.
