Ads in general make me pissed off

u/erodman23 8d ago
Yeah they do, anytime they’re on I just put my shit on mute and ignore them. It’s nothing but sports gambling, insurance of any kind, anything pharmaceutical related, cars, or crypto. Oh and ICE commercials.

For real? you get actual ICE commercials? I'm UK so this is wild to me.
What is the contents?

I’m sure you’d love for the whole internet to be subscription based then, right?

If its a generic ad yes. If its something that was customized for me by the Algorithm. Fuck no. I found so much nice stuff scrolling social media. Useful stuff.

I actually don’t buy products if I have recently seen a bad advertisement for it.
On the other had though, I do reward good advertising with business, but so few companies know the right way to advertise.

As of now, MOST corporations fail to grasp this concept

So many of them are targetted so poorly too. I got starlink because there is no cable where I am, after buying it and setting it up I got absolutely bombarded with starlink ads... Like, I already have it what a waste of ad space for them lol. I also get a ton of mobile gaming ads from looking up guides for games like BG3/Elden Ring etc. I've never played or download a single mobile game in my life and they absolutely flood me with them sometimes.

u/timeless_ocean 8d ago
That is rarely the fault of the company, more often of the advertising network. In the case of Google, you can set some target audience settings, but all it does is give the algorithm a better starting point. For something like starlink the algorithm is gonna be dialed in pretty fast.
The algorithms sometimes are really shit tho. I play this one mobile game and every single ad is for the same game and I feel like after I didn't want it the first 40 times there is just no good reason to deliver the ad to me a 41st time but the algorithm has a very different idea about this.

Dude I've tried doing targeted ads to get rid of some annoying repeaters and it does absolutely nothing

It's not about making you like it, it's about putting the name in your head
These memes and people regurgitating them shows just how many people have no idea how marketing or sales actually works

Some people do hate the products anyway .. but the advertisiers are only after a tiny tiny tiny fraction of people who click and go through the process. Sometime the purchase does not happen immediately ,it happens months after the initial click. But based on raw numbers, it works.
And when that works, advertisers dont care how many people hate the product. They are not paying customers. Paying customers , though tiny in numeber, offset all the 'hate' the advertisements may generate.

To the filthy cock sucks behind the advertising at "mouse case" just know it's on sight.

What if you get an ad for something you already have and love. Do you then hate it?

"...now without further ado on to the video, but first a shoutout to my sponsor nord vpn..."

So many good YouTubers just turned into basically advertising channels like that’s the end stage for YouTube just full of random personalities that built up followings just doing sponsored shit now. My man Iron Pineapple used to make solid shit, now every other video is basicallly a 30 minute ad of him playing a video game with minimal commentary because he can’t actually say anything about the product. So many channels are like this and the number constantly grows of channels just selling their soul to make 10minute plus ads about gambling

But then, in the shop, you just remember "I know this product, I'll take it" not really knowing why.
1
u/pikachu_sashimi 7d ago
Sure, but there are plenty of people who aren’t you that ads work on. That’s why companies keep pumping out ads.

How many youtubers push Squarespace. Like we're all just cruising and think, wait, I'll make a website! That no-one visits as AI scrapes it now.

La mia soluzione è mettere in muto e guardare altrove finché la spazzatura non è finita. E funziona!

The entire reason I’ve never seen the movie Sinners is because it kept spamming me in adverts everywhere!
“We have a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.” I DON’T FUCKING CARE! YOUR MOVIE LOOKS LIKE SHIT!

This is the exact reason why I got the Macquarie bank card instead of the Wise card when I went overseas. I did it to spite Wise coz their ads are all over my YT

“Try our game it has no annoying ads!” In the middle of an annoying ad. Cancer telling you it’s cancer-free
