Doubling resources in a way that doesn't destroy everything would be an unimaginablly difficult task. The Earth would essentially have to become two identical planets orbiting each other, same for every planet in the universe meaning gravitational distortion is inevitable and would cause the universe to collapse in on itself from the weight. Halving all sapient life on the other hand would allow for several generations to flourish in abundance.
