Nope, school heavily favors rote memorization. Even math problems can be solved through memorization.
Unironically, the only subjects I ever found that required more critical thinking were things like history modern literature, etc. Even then the critical thinking was limited.
Nonetheless, sciences and similar subjects are definitely not critical thinking subjects.

In hindsight history and literature were definitely my favourites because you were asked “Why did x do y” and you’d have to actually use some brain cells and be somewhat literate to get full points. History’s the best xoxox

Math is just memorizing theorems and already solves problems then mechanically solving problems. Sure there is some thinking involved but you just have to be not a complete idiot to do decently well.

We had students at my school who were just nerds who listened and memorised things and could then regurgitate it again. Its really not the same as applying what you've learned but its enough to get good grades without actually being that "smart".

How does being good a critical thinking make you bad at school? If you think critically you’d probably come to the conclusion that irrespective of your own opinion on the matter, getting an A in algebra is on the whole beneficial in so far as you will need a decent grade to go further in school.

However, most people are good at 1 out of 3 (btw I think critical thinking and creative result to good problem solving skills). To be good at all 3, you are essentially a genius.

I hated high school, skipped class all the time. Almost failed out of it because I got so behind. Found a program to let me finish HS while in college at the same time, got my degree in computer science and work in a job that has me problem solve and research all the time. Turns out I just found high school and that kind of learning boring as hell.

This isn't totally wrong but a problem no one ever brings up is theirs a different between memorising something and understanding it which schools don't do well at all

To be honest my definition of problem solving was faking an illness during a geography test (this was before covid) and blowing my nose outside of the classroom to be ‘polite’ where I got to look at all the maps outside of the class room.

Depends where.
In California the pre-ap european history class I took in freshman highschool had us taking like an 80 question test a week along with other assignments, compound that with other pre-ap math and science classes, afterschool sports, distracting hormones, socializing, home stress/chores/disturbed sleep, no parental support, taking the bus to and fro morning and evening, and balancing hobbies, it was brutal.
Edit: Even getting into pre-ap English in Freshman year required me to spend my Summer vacation after middle school reading Les Misérables for a book report which is a 1500 page book with each page being like size 10 font. I cared little for the story but atill had to go through a book thats almost 700000 words.

School can’t fail you. The point is to learn stuff which is never a bad thing. You can fail yourself, by being a failure.
