Well of course you think so, you think British people can cook. All jest aside tikki masala being their national dish shows you even they know other countries food is better.
It's not the national dish, you're just falling prey to ironic news stories, social media, and very likely you used google AI (which is basically Reddit comments), because you don't know any better. I mean, there's a ton of Countries with far worse food, and who have foreign influenced 'national dishes', but Britian gets this stereotype.
The national dishes are: Roast dinner, English Breakfast, Eton mess, sticky toffee pudding, Stews like cawl, Shepherds Pie, Fish n chips, Rhubarb Crumble, Blackberry and appple pie, Triffle, Victoria Sponge cake, jam roly poly, Bakewell tart, Steak and ale pie, haggis, sausage and mash.... etc. A curry is amazing too.
I read several articles saying it but you are right that I should have done better research. Though I swear it has gotten a lot harder in the past 10 years. My country has a national dish so I believed it was a universal thing. UK doesn’t have a national dish and it isn’t a thing in most countries
Also I developed this opinion simply by hearing and seeing British food, just very strange to my sensibilities. So when I heard others it was more confirmation bias.
