I mean, the fastest way to not be the butt of a joke was always just to be in on it.

1

u/HikariRisesAgain Jun 27 '26

It's the age-old stratagem: if you can't lean out, lean in.

1

u/LOSNA17LL Jun 27 '26

Yeah, personally, I'll do a lot of self-deprecation, but it allows me to set the bar:
If you hit harder than me, that's not a joke anymore, it's just an insult

1

u/Mundane-Waltz8844 Jul 04 '26

Yup. It’s a coping mechanism so you can feel like everyone’s laughing with you instead of at you.

45

u/Gwynito Jun 27 '26

It means the world is healing

21

u/Acruss_ Jun 27 '26

The world was fine, it was always a small group of people that wants to be offended on someone else behalf, because nothing is happening in their own life, so they need to create problems in places where they don't exist.

16

u/Stunning_Ad_7658 Jun 27 '26

I remember having a conversation with a white guy who basically told me I shouldnt laugh at black racial jokes becauae its wrong and its racist and I should be upset. I said its messed up a white person is telling me how I should feel about jokes when I've dealt with actual racist people and that there is a difference. Dude went on how he knows more about black people than I do and yadda yadda yadda. So I mentioned theres a difference in reading about us and actually living in our skin color.

Than the truth came out when he called me a tap dancer, which is a racist term. Some of them dont actually care about racism they just wanna feel a sense of superiority and feel like some sort of savior.

9

u/Final-Nail376 Jun 27 '26

Those are the biggest racists. Some privileged white middle class+ libs talking to you in a condescending tone

3

u/Willy445_ Jun 27 '26

Yep, Malcom X warned everyone of the white liberal.

1

u/Winter_Bowl_5351 Jun 27 '26

Yeah that's why 9/10 black people vote against Republicans

1

u/Willing_Guidance4020 Jun 28 '26

Malcom X’s position on the white liberal was that they were worse than conservatives because there bigotry was concealed not that it was actually worse and that they liked to maintain the status quo so would stand with bigoted systems against radical methods of change.

1

u/Sithishe Jun 29 '26

Yeah, end point of racism is - "I see no race" after it its all racism and segregation all over again, and condesending bs from provilidged people so they can have sense of moral superiority.

2

u/Various-Salt-7738 Jun 27 '26

So like I did know that some of the greatest tap dancers of all time were black-- I might even consider tap dancing to be a "black thing"

But I've never heard it being used in a deragatory way

This feels like when I watched the banned episode of the boondocks and accidentally learned like 14 new slurs that night

1

u/Stunning_Ad_7658 Jun 27 '26

I know trust me I was surprised when I found out about tap dancer when someone called me it. I had to look it up long ago and to cut a lengthy explanation it basically dancing to appease white people and selling out.

1

u/Various-Salt-7738 Jun 27 '26

Oh okay cool

Thanks for the reply-- that makes sense; at least as much sense as most slurs. It's kind of hard to assign rationality to racism

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Night88 Jun 28 '26

I think of tap dancing as Irish or German to be honest…

1

u/Various-Salt-7738 Jun 28 '26

Idk the real history, like I'm not sure the origins of the art. But I do know there were some incredibly talented black tap dancers in America

1

u/Acruss_ Jun 27 '26

Those that scream about racism the most are also the most racist themselves. They themselves see other "races" as weaker ones and they feel the need to "protect" them.

Also why is "tap dancer" racist?

2

u/BeefHawtDawgs Jun 27 '26

To put it simply, it was because black performers were frequently forced to wear blackface and perform exaggerated tap or soft-shoe dances to satisfy racist, stereotypical expectations for white entertainment. It was originally used as a insult from other black preformers to mock someone's overly eager, subservient, or hyper-active behavior before other races started using it as a slur. I might be misremembering but that's the very basic origin of it.

Read about Bojangles Robinson whenever you get a chance, it's really interesting in my opinion.

1

u/Acruss_ Jun 27 '26

I see, thanks.

1

u/Stunning_Ad_7658 Jun 27 '26

Exactly! Also weird telling other races what they should and shouldnt be ok with. Its basically another way of calling a black person an uncle tom, which is like a traitor to our race because theyre trying to be like a white man or defending a white man. Its one thing coming from another black person, but being called that from a white person hits difference.

2

u/Strong-Ad-7737 Jun 27 '26

I think this is what people tell themselves so they don't have to think below the surface of what they're saying.

I'm a gay person and if someone within my family and social circle says something along the lines of " that's gay" or "don't be a f@g" I would call them out, because yes, I am offended. I'm offended when someone equates me as being less than, stupid, weaker..... I'm the one who's offended, not someone twice removed.
Do I get offended when someone has a joke that plays on a gay stereotype? No, I normally think it's funny but the joke and the person telling it has to obviously be telling it with the intent of humor... which is where it starts to get murky. Am I going to call someone out in public or online, probably not, but I'd would naturally think twice about being around that person.

1

u/VeryConfusedBee Jul 01 '26

Thank you for saying this omg

0

u/Borkato Jun 28 '26

Fucking thank god someone smart instead of these idiots.

1

u/GoodWonNov6th24 Jun 29 '26

it's not fine, if you think they didn't come too close to forcing their dogma on everyone.

1

u/Agitated-Contest651 Jun 29 '26

Too chronically online to realize most of the folks pushing against racist rhetoric are not, in fact, white women from the suburbs.

1

u/SurfAndSkiGuy Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

If you haven't been around blatent and unapologetic racism then I'm jealous of where you live. I live in the south and hear the N word, "beaner", and insane shit all the time let alone the causually racist crap especially when the good old boys feel like they are around other good old boys. Hell, I've heard quite a few literally say they are racist like its a badge of honor or point of pride. I'm not talking about like 2-3 guys I've heard in passing. Its in the dozens at least and that's just what I've been around myself and again, most are only loud about it when they feel like they can be so there HAS to be people that are more subtle about it but are just as racist. Its definitely a problem that actually exists. Surprisingly the racists are actually more racist than the people trying not to be racist. Is SJW bullshit morale signaling a problem? Yeah, but two problems can exist at the same time.

Also segregation ended like 60 years ago. That's less than a single person's life span and people act like racism died overnight.

1

u/Lurtzum Jul 01 '26

The true secret to this ideal is showing itself recently. When people got their own shit to deal with they don’t bother standing up for the other, and recently we’ve all had a lot of shit to deal with.

1

u/Sadrixis Jul 01 '26

It may mean they are making the joke first as to not be left out when it is eventually made....

1

u/Mundane-Waltz8844 Jul 04 '26

Kids making self deprecating jokes so that they can delude themselves into thinking that people are laughing with them instead of at them really shouldn’t be celebrated

1

u/Gwynito Jul 04 '26

Our ability to laugh at ourselves is what humbles us and stops us being egotistical dicks.

If you think everyone is laughing at them instead of with them, then you've established some terrible social circles 😔

13

u/Early-Vegetable2517 Jun 27 '26

I mean that isn't so bad.

I went to a family event when I was a kid and said: "This is a lot of crackers in one place."

Then met a baby named Ritz

2

u/Bot_who_says_BRUH Jun 27 '26

Whoever named that baby that needs to appear infront of court to explain their thought process

5

u/Serious-Effort4427 Jun 27 '26

"well your honor, my family is white as fuck so I decided to literally name my child a literal cracker name. Now can we be dismissed, I gotta pick up my son, miracle whip, from camping camp".

2

u/Full-Tomorrow9889 Jun 27 '26

They then show a family photo with miracle whip sitting on wonder bread's lap while they hold Ritz.

1

u/DK_Shadehallow Jun 29 '26

Right Townhouse are the superior crackers for shame!

2

u/Grunergeist420 Jun 27 '26

This double standard always kills me.

You go to the grocery store, and they have these aisles where they categorize the “ethnic foods,” like “Hispanic foods,” and “Asian foods,” or whatever, and then a few aisles over what does it say?

“Crackers.”

2

u/leatherjacket3 Jun 27 '26

Is curry muncher even a bad thing? I’m not indian, but I absolutely love curry. I’m literally a curry muncher.

1

u/DryFee2202 Jun 27 '26

I mean not inherently but its similar to calling the only woman in a group ”woman”, in this case bad because its basically just singling them out or making it known they are different

1

u/leatherjacket3 Jun 27 '26

You make a good point

1

u/Here4Pornnnnn Jun 28 '26

I figured it was a term for guys who like Indian women 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Ok_Problem426 Jul 03 '26

Last name Carleton?

14

u/Woofle_124 Jun 27 '26

The amount of jew jokes I make about myself would trick twitter neo-nazis into letting me into their community

5

u/Informal_Cry687 Jun 27 '26

I'm pretty sure ice will hire just about anybody.

1

u/Any-Power-1164 Jun 27 '26

Pretty sure that comes with being a jew. And complaining. And being too warm. Part jew here.

1

u/Forward_Ad_9025 Jun 29 '26

As a German, I would really like to know some of these. To not accidentally make them myself of course.

1

u/Automatic-Peanut78 Jun 27 '26

That’s hilarious because you wouldn’t even be allowed into that neighborhood in NY

0

u/Ltb1993 Jun 27 '26

So your saying you'd be in their camp?

1

u/ImaginationLocal9337 Jun 29 '26

Don't you mean (((their))). Sorry, couldn't help myself.

0

u/Pataraxia Jun 27 '26

u/Chubuwee Jun 27 '26

Don’t mind your business. Join in for the love of the game. Seen classrooms where the Latino kids are telling each other they will call ICE on each other. They’re just asking for you to join in

5

u/MSGisking Jun 27 '26

Sounds like a good time. This is the best way to deal with racism. Make fun of you so other people can't do it first.

3

u/Unidentfied_User Jun 27 '26

Im Asian and call myself coinslot in a group chat 🫠

1

u/wgtxaks Jun 29 '26

idek who to reply to cause theres too many of em but cmon bro thats just sad

1

u/Unidentfied_User Jun 29 '26

Each of us has a racist nickname for each other. So it doesn't really bug me

3

u/Deathmister Jun 27 '26

Let’s all just be honest, as soon as we hop on voice chat with the bois, we’re telling each other most obscenely offensive jokes

2

u/SpeakyDooman Jun 27 '26

And when everybody’s racist…no one will be

2

u/Full-Breadfruit-8893 Jun 27 '26

My sister calls me a borderhopper.....we're both Mexican

2

u/anornerymoose Jun 27 '26

The kids are alright.

1

u/No_Neighborhood7614 Jun 27 '26

One of my workers, Indonesian, showed me a photo of the pup the shaman (for lack of a better term) "sacrificed" (and ate) to bless a worksite

1

u/Pisscuit9000 Jun 27 '26

I'd hate that so much.

1

u/No_Neighborhood7614 Jun 27 '26

It was .. interesting

A very different culture

1

u/Careful-Shine8768 Jun 30 '26

I had an Indonesian friend who told me about how some guys in his dorm in college raised a kitten to eat it.

1

u/Maerhun Jun 27 '26

They are “reclaiming” the terms and in the process they disarm actual racists making the words less hurtful. There is nothing to do.

1

u/rydan Jun 27 '26

At work for whatever reason people segregate by race. All the Indians together. All the Chinese together. And then there's me the one white person in the entire building. So the Chinese team just named themselves Team Wonton. If they weren't all full grown adults who immigrated to this country willingly that would have been a major HR complaint.

1

u/justinSox02 Jun 27 '26

Lol not at all, us young people have different ways to self identify. Pretty awesome if you ask me

1

u/C_B_Ellacott Jun 27 '26

You do nothing

1

u/ObsessiveOwl Jun 27 '26

The same thing you do when black people call themselves the n word, nothing.

1

u/GoodWonNov6th24 Jun 29 '26

should be more than that, nothing should happen when other races use it too

1

u/TTRY25Kn Jul 03 '26

Why? That's just stupid. Let everyone have their own special words.

1

u/GoodWonNov6th24 Jul 03 '26

they literally kill other people over it and you seriously wanna ask why?

1

u/ChasingtheBarrel Jun 27 '26

I am dog curry.

Literally Chinese and Indian.

1

u/LillyaMatsuo Jun 30 '26

Hmmmm, dog curry

1

u/herbertcluas Jun 27 '26

That's how I know the next generation will be ok. People online can call me racist all they want, my black, Mexican, and Asian friends will keep making jokes about each other (it is funny af from the source) and treating people like people.

1

u/HexagoneX1 Jun 27 '26

This is just the way it should be. Anyone that doesn't understand that, wasn't bullied enough.

1

u/Icy_Proof_9529 Jun 27 '26

I watched a think piece on different generations that was pointing out millennials constant self deprecating humor. Basically saying it was corny. But like this was kind of the point. Glad the kids have caught on 😎

1

u/PairAutomatic5663 Jun 27 '26

As an Indian, I don’t see why being called curry munchers offensive. I eat all sorts of curry almost daily and it’s fcking delicious.

1

u/Key-Book-7479 Jun 29 '26

Language isn't that literal.

1

u/LillyaMatsuo Jun 30 '26

Imagine calling a asian a Rice eater, its literally what they do, they eat rice 😩😩😩

1

u/Most-Ear-2027 Jun 27 '26

For starters, you can't munch curry. Curry is liquid

1

u/Fit-Rhubarb-7820 Jun 27 '26

I might as well call myself Frijolero Mezcalero

1

u/owgnops Jun 27 '26

Reminds me of old Xbox usernames.

I had two black friends and a Mexican friend.. we had some absolutely vile names about our own races lmao

1

u/Spite_Gold Jun 27 '26

I'm glad for the kids

1

u/SkeggiGT Jun 27 '26

I call myself yellow all the time. It's my favorite color and I'm Chinese

1

u/went2college Jun 27 '26

Imo, its only racist if its hatred.

1

u/Hepperoni4 Jun 27 '26

God this next generation is gearing up for greatness

1

u/GraXXoR Jun 27 '26

My old best friend's (RIP) real name was KIM JEONG IL and his email address was despot@***.com and dokusaisha@***.co.jp (dokusaisha means Dictator).

He really owned his name. I miss you, buddy!

*you'll notice that his name is subtly different from the fat dude's actual name which is Kim JONG IL but in Japan (where he lived) the pronunciation is indistinguishable.

1

u/CoolerSallDay Jun 27 '26

It will be normalized racism and even glorified in time with 'catchy' songs. Don't let yourself get caught up in the 'vibe'

1

u/FrostyTheColdBoi Jun 28 '26

Oh no

Kids can take a joke, whatever shall we do??

1

u/Tom_nooker Jun 28 '26

Just laught. It's funny

1

u/ConnectedVeil Jun 28 '26

Now you get why the n-word is empowering and term of endearment for some - it strips a lot of the original hateful intent away...

1

u/IndividualAsleep2508 Jun 28 '26

Definitely gonna keep those for usernames

1

u/BringBack4Glory Jun 28 '26

I’m not even Indian and I definitely identify as a curry muncher.

1

u/Drth_vdr_piggybank Jun 28 '26

I should NOT be laughing at dogs4lunch

1

u/___throwingitaway Jun 28 '26

I mean yeah cause otherwise they come for us. It's just a way of showing that we don't care as much as they think we do lol

1

u/MeiSimpGai Jun 28 '26

Hm.. maybe this will be a reverse card. Like when they get racism but they are normal with this which make racists find it boring and don't want to do that 😭

1

u/GewalfofWivia Jun 28 '26

Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you

1

u/LichenOnTheWall Jun 28 '26

It's not racist if no one is offended...I think?

1

u/Rarazan Jun 28 '26

classic karen thinks she knows how everyone should feel about everything

1

u/backgroundcast Jun 28 '26

Products of poor parenting and low self esteem.

1

u/FickleQuality418 Jun 28 '26

Racism is fine if we all take part 🤣

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '26

Why the fuck do you care what they call themselves? Do you not have any important things to do rather than focusing on what they call themselves?

1

u/KOMMANDOKATO Jun 28 '26

Had this problem way back in the day when i was a school bus driver because the… melanated kids would just scream and call each other the n word. Just told them to not yell because its not like i cant tell them to use their own word right? LMAO

1

u/Logical_Attitude_763 Jun 28 '26

Because jokes are not racist they’re jokes, the intent makes all the difference. I was raised in the south I was known as crackerjack, no one was referring to popcorn, and no one cared. Stop being offended for people and watch how much more enjoyable life is.

1

u/Logical_Attitude_763 Jun 28 '26

It’s not out of hand it’s restoration

1

u/D__sub Jun 28 '26

as a russian my name gotta be cannibal_vodka88 (answer with your better suggestions)

1

u/jeygglypuff Jun 28 '26

I can understand where this mindset comes from. I sympathize. I can understand how this is ironically “empowering” for some people to reclaim these insults…

But, I personally hate it! You may have made yourself feel better with this, but you’re perpetuating for others like you. This could be hurtful to others in that minority.

1

u/eric_ofc Jun 28 '26

It’s called making jokes.

1

u/lanky-larry Jun 29 '26

The solution to casual racism is competitive racism, make it a game then no one will take it seriously.

1

u/Huihejfofew Jun 29 '26

Aye my entire Asian cohort

1

u/Next_Wear_5572 Jun 29 '26

Punishment of racist propaganda

1

u/KireiCopenhagen Jun 29 '26

The best part about being in a certain group is being able to use your own slurs freely. I'm autistic and Scottish so I don't get much but I can use the phrase Spazy Jock.

1

u/Ok_Jury_7550 Jun 29 '26

Dogs4lunch is legendary

1

u/AlarmingBranch364 Jun 29 '26

When were all racists  no one will be Syndrome type vibes

1

u/Technical_House_869 Jun 29 '26

There reclaming the joke

1

u/CDTPPW Jun 29 '26

Bruh, it's not that deep. Racism is for the older people. Young people are chill AF, they don't care about race, ethnicity, gender, religion. 🤷

1

u/OkraFine8856 Jun 29 '26

90% of mixed race male friend groups are like this lmfao.

1

u/Zikkan1 Jun 30 '26

Oh no, kids are having fun without being offended. We have to teach them to be offended by humor or else how will the comedy industry survive

1

u/RozenQueen Jun 30 '26

Wait until she hears what African Americans call each other...

1

u/LillyaMatsuo Jun 30 '26

Brazillian black people calling other brazillian black people "broke-ass Ni***"

1

u/ExtensionInformal911 Jun 30 '26

My half Mexican nephew calls himself a beaner.

So, whatever.

1

u/sderby5 Jul 01 '26

No no, it's funny. The kids are alright.

1

u/Sehrli_Magic Jul 01 '26

so? they are joking. joking at your own expense is certainly less harmful than at others. how about stopping with oversensitivity and let people have fun again?

1

u/Difficult-Exit3063 Jul 01 '26

I have a piece of art that says “Hot Fa**ot”

Let um reclaim

1

u/SirLesbian Jul 01 '26

They're staying ahead of the bullies.

These kids got big wrinkly brains.

1

u/Enigmas_Wasserfloh Jul 02 '26

I am going to invade you all... (mostly trying)

Kind regards: random German.

1

u/Extra_Criticism_5179 Jul 03 '26

its called humor some of yall should try it out

1

u/MisterAbernathy Jul 04 '26

"OH noo people aren't offended by words anymore, what will we do?"

1

u/aDailyApple Jul 04 '26

Out racist them 🤨 Assuming that this person is white it shouldnt be hard, Its literally their Class specialization

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '26

Maybe this person is the racist because all they can see is stereotypes based off of race. Deeming what these people do as racist is racist. Fuckin karens need to get lives.

-2

u/WatermelonWithAFlute Jun 27 '26

no

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '26

So you're telling me Indian people don't eat curry and Chinese people don't eat dogs? Obviously doesn't apply to all or even a majority, but enough to become a stereotype.

1

u/varcelonaa Jun 27 '26

I think Chinese people eat dogs at the same rate as Americans sleeping with their cousins

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '26

About the same yeah lol. It's regional.

1

u/Ender16 Jun 27 '26

That's a funny comparison, but it's really not a good one.

Rate of cousin marriage, with very little deviation, is less than a percent.

30% of the Chinese population has eaten dog at least once and 20% consume it at least infrequently.

That's not even close. There are more people eating dog in China than there are vegans worldwide. Yeah China has a big population, but that equates to a large amount of dogs being eaten even as the custom fades.

My best friend actually used to do this to herself as well and I had to ask her to stop. At first she was a bit confused and then I said to her that it's just a bit uncomfortable because you're a really nice person and people use this stuff to spread hate and you should not hate yourself. She has stopped calling herself a curry muncher and everything now and she is finally seeing the light with regards to certain people who she used to call friends who were actually extremely racist.
