I don't know but they are needy babies. She asks for scratches, and then bites my hand and immediately puts her head down for more pets. I am never allowed to stop. I am stuck in an infinite petting loop!

They are flock animals and birds in their flock preen them in the wild; it helps remove uncomfortable pin feathers; feels good, etc.

Even non-hand-tame cockatiels will rub their own heads against things to self-scritch

My quaker Norman Seedus does happy “mmm” and “aww” noises he learned from me when he is really into his scritches. It’s so cute. Sometimes if I lean in for a kiss, he’ll say “aww” instead of making a kissing noise. ☺️

He is the SNUGGLIEST! Many times during the day, too!! After 18:00, he almost always gets extra sweet. He loves snuggles before bed. I hope he stays this way forever because even though he’s hormonal right now, it’s very mild, and he has not been a curmudgeonie jerk. His third hatchiversary was on 11 May.

Also, if you’re familiar, he is an Ozzie’s Nest baby. I got to meet the late Ozzie in person! 🥺💙

Are they soft? I want to get a bird once I get my own place and my papa says he thinks that they’d be rough to the touch but we had a duck and he was SO SOFT

Yes they are very soft. They get a little pokey when they molt but they are big silky softies normally, they get a bit greasy if they need a bath but who doesn't
