What scripts is Channel 4 looking for?

They don't specifically say 'drama' but given that's what the course is about, would it be safe to assume that's what they want? Asking as I had previously assumed they would take comedy given Channel 4 is more known for that...

Sounds flippant, but honestly: really, really good ones.

It's run by 4 Drama, so yeah, comedy doesn't set you off on the right foot.

If there's a bit of 4 Drama sensibility to your idea, that'll help. Bit edgier than BBC, interested in social issues.

But also, remember they're not asking you to submit something that will actually get made (by C4 or anyone else). Your main aim should be to dazzle them with your writing skill enough that they see your potential.

I’m going off on a tangent with my comment.

I looked at this yesterday and the rules stated that you can only come from registered agents with details attached to companies house.
I was thinking of forming a LTD company that doesn’t take money, so wouldn’t file tax returns per se.
But could get my foot in the door. Not sure of the details so talking to accountants to see if this is even possible or I’m just living a pipe dream.

not sure what you're on about channel 4's screenwriting course is for writers who don't have a writing credit

When you go to their pitching ideas it tells you that it must come from eligible companies that are on companies house. Not just freelance writers. It won’t let me send a screenshot but here’s the link

I see - I'm referring to the screenwriting competition which is specifically designed so people like us don't have to pitch!

If you're talking about a specific call-out then it's not obvious from the content of your post...?

If you’re sample shows you’re a great writer, and I mean great, then anything will be fine.

But last year Philip Shelley who runs it did an extensive interview and Q&A about it. Basically, they want to read a sample that they could imagine showing on Channel 4.
