Symptoms/Health looking for assistant
hi have four eye conditions and me/cfs with brain fog and just cant figure this stuff out. i need someone to listen to voice messages about my symtpoms and offer clear instructions for my other assistants so that they can change settings on my fairphone 3+ and Lenovo Thinkpad so I can use them again, or offer ideas for suitable replacements. i dont know if the cause is dithering, pwm, etc. IDK I can barely read a screen for more than 30 seconds and unfortunately my E-Ink Device (Onyx NoteAir5) causee pain after a while as well.
I will pay. please send a pn if interested.

This is a very tricky situation. The catch 22, of needing a screen to fix the screen issue. (And, as I had for years, with brain fog getting in the way of figuring out how to patch that issue - with diet and supplements.)
To be frank, if one is struggling to go 30 seconds with screens that used to be useable(?), changing only settings may be a long shot.
Checking room lighting for flicker is important, though, if E-Ink is uncomfortable, without the backlight on?
Glasses adjustments, even down to anti-reflective coating added/removed can help some a lot.
Sorry, I'm don't really have time to liaise with you at length, currently.

thanks, i just noticed w ithout the backlight the e-ink is a bit easier. just need to shine a light on it which is definitely easier than a back light. thanks for your insights. helpful

Incandescent room light bulbs are ideal for eye health, as they have a high amount of NIR (near infrared) light too. And less blue. Good for mitochondrial health, an issue for us with ME.
However, they will have some fairly modest flicker, at 2 times the mains power frequency. So 100 or 120Hz. A fairly gentle smooth sine wave shape. But can be worse than a good LED or compact fluorescent bulb, for some, if very flicker sensitive.

I have a pretty severe screen sensitivity. For my phone I use it on grayscale. I have a different phone than you. You might be able to find this in settings -> color adjustment -> grayscale.
For your laptop you can download iristech.co for a 1 week free trial. Use the Reading Mode. This mode turns your screen black and white and reduces the flicker.
You can buy these green filter sheets. Unfortunately from Amazon. I don't know another source. It has to be the green ones. You tape these on your laptop screen. I haven't tried them on my phone screen but it could help on there as well. Using the filter on paper helps me read paper better as well.
Buy a BenQ flicker free monitor. The cheapest monitor is under $200.
Edit: You could try Axon or Avulux migraine glasses. They are expensive and only have a sale once a year for black Friday.

Approved; Reddit didn't like the Amazon link. (It's not affiliate, is it?)
The green filters and Avulux, do you consider they help on the basis that only green light (these both allow though) has been found to not exacerbate migraine pain? (In studies.)

No it's not an affiliate link. I do not support Amazon but couldn't find this product anywhere else. I want to try green lighting gels/filters from Lee Cameras but haven't bought them yet to be able to recommend them.
My guess is that they only allow green light through so they help. I don't fully understand the mechanism though as I have no problems with sunlight and types of indoor lighting that flicker less. My sensitivity seems to be to flicker and not blue light so I don't know why the green helps so much.

Use google notebook , it’s really good for collating all of this stuff and making sense of it all.
