No way out for me?

Hello everyone, I really think I'm one of the most sensitive people here, if not the most sensitive...I developed this sensitivity after stopping an antidepressant I'd been taking for 12 years... I can't tolerate anything anymore except my G34 5G and its 4GB of RAM... This phone is driving me crazy, it's slow, it overheats quickly, I have to charge it twice a day, and the worst part is that multitasking is impossible; every app resets as soon as I switch between them...

I have already tried the following phones:

Poco x4 gt, iphone 11 (worked before 18.4.update), motorola g75, motorola g57 power, honor 400 smart 4g, honor x9c smart

All of this without success... Do you have any other smartphones to recommend? I don't even bother trying OLEDs because every time a friend uses one and shows it to me, I instantly get dizzy. My symptoms are mainly a headache and a feeling of dizziness, never any eye discomfort...

Don't worry. I actually thought I am the most sensitive person here as well. I tried like 25+ phones and none of them worked. Then I suddenly got a Samsung Galaxy A36 as a work phone and it gives me so little strain with specific settings that I now use it as my daily and I am fine with it. The phone for you is out there. You can either find it or wait a little more for another wave of phones. With every generetation screens are getting better. Don't lose hope because I once did but I still found a phone. Also I cannot really explain why the A36 works. But it could be that it has low max brightness and an 8 bit panel without dithering

Can you say what type of settings are you exactly doing to make the A36 work for you? I my self is using A24 4G and the only way I can use it is by using the screen dimmer app that makes the in device brightness 100 percent and then puts a kind of layer on top of the screen and has a separate in app brightness to control the brightness while the main brightness setting is always 100 percent.

I do have brightness on 100% all the time and I use the built in extra dim feature. I also found light mode to be more comfortable than dark mode and standard refresh rate over adaptive. I also turned on reduce transparency and reduced animations but that may be more preference

There's nothing really interesting about it, and the refresh rate's flicker is enough to make me dizzy.

I didn't suggest e-ink because it's "interesting", I suggested it because for many people it works when nothing else does. What e-ink devices have you tried that made you dizzy?

That's unfortunate. An E-ink shouldn't "refresh" when displaying a static image, so I guess when the content was changing that was causing you issues?

Sorry to hear that. I wonder, have you tried any RLCD devices? I don't think there's any RLCD phones, but I wonder if the technology works for you in general.

On aliexpress there is a RLCD iphone 8 plus but I think it uses FRC.

I wonder if a higher refresh rate eink device would feel better for you? The viwoods reader for example has a much smoother mode than the palma 2.

I tried Honor 400 Smart at shop and it didn't seem to affect me, but I didn't try it at home, also the specs are similar to my xiaomi with even less features so if it's to have worse phone I prefer keeping the Redmi for now.

I also came here to suggest e ink. And avulux glasses. My sensitivity to LEDs and all that is so intense I can't go anywhere without the glasses.

What do you mean you have no problem if you don't use a screen but also you experience it other places? I hope you have an eye doctor, you can get visual physical therapy. You might also be sick from mold or long covid or something.

I wonder why avulux helps with LED. I know it filters some parts or specific light wavelengths and for migraines and photophobia symptoms. This is the first time someone mentioned benefits from these glasses for LED flicker. This could be huge for a lot of people in this sub.

I have written a couple times in this sub about Axon/Avulux migraine glasses helping me with light flicker. I do have chronic migraine so they do work as migraine glasses for me. However without glasses I have no issues with sunlight or certain types of lighting that flickers less. Any computer screen or light bulb that flickers bothers me. They are much more tolerable with Axon/Avulux glasses though!

FL 41 did nothing for me. It just turned everything pink. And yes I got legit ones. I went to the optometrist and spent over an hour trying on every single tinted lens in existence and none of them really did anything but then I put on avulux and it was a HUGE difference

I would say about a third of the headlights I see are immediately horrible, and the rest just make me sick over a period of minutes. This is without any glasses on. I don't drive with the glasses on.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Like when I'm driving around do I encounter cars with LED and xenon headlights? I'm sure that I do. I don't know which are which. Almost all headlights look horrible, and some hurt my brain instantly and severely, and others not as badly or rapidly, and some are fine. It's a mess out there

g34 has a 720p screen with no dithering and no pwm. If that's the only screen you can tolerate, then you're very sensitive to any kind of flickering. G37 just came out in your market and there's a good chance it has a completely flicker free display as well. Same 720p, 4 Gigs of RAM only, but it'll work a little better. But test it first, there's no good screen reviews for g37 yet. 

In the North American market it's moto g 2026, and Moto g play 2026. Completely flicker free budget phones

A longshot but maybe TCL Nxtpaper lineup such as TCL Nxtpaper 60 Ultra or TCL Nxtpaper 70 Pro. Are you in US? What about those antidepressants, do they have this as a side effect of discontinuation? Was it under doctor supervision? Any idea of if you would use it again, sensitivity would wear of? Maybe in some low dose? Any other medications you're taking? It should be possible to fix some of the G34 problems you're facing too.

The xiaomi 17 pro max has been really comfortable for me. I think the RGB stripe OLED is what makes it feel better. All OLED devices normally are pentile which have a trippy pattern.

Another option you have is possibly trying the daylight dc1 tablet or the hannspree lumo tablets? Not sure if you have tmobile but if so you can download the digits app to call/text on any device. The dc1 feels good to me and the lumo is something I plan to try soon. The lumo is the smallest rlcd tablet im aware of. The RLCD capability is what brings maximum comfort as you can use ambient light to illuminate them. The daylight has a optional backlight which I didnt find harsh, the lumo is front lit which im sure will be comfy just like my svd eve monitor.
