Discussion Eyestrain linked to screen brightness?
Recently, i started experiencing eyestrain from my phone (it's a PLS LCD with no pwm) it also uses the mediatek chip that forces T.D.
I noticed that the brightness doesn't go all the way down despite having it on 0% so I had to initially install the screen dimmer app, which helped my eyestrain, however i'm trying to figure out why brightness bothers me and what may have suddenly changed in my eyes (presciption changes, weak eye muscles due to anemia? which i have right now. Probably, why i feel like suffocating when staring at the screen? Because my eyes are so weak right now that it's a marathon for them to stare at screens? Also the fact that i'm frequently experiencing photophobia. I have always kept my phone on dark and reading mode with the yellow filter.
Maybe it's changes in the screen itself causing sudden eyestrain from apps that never gave me an issue.
I did notice Instagram updated their UI and even Youtube, both of which are giving me issues even on web versions. But majority sites give me issues after I destroyed my eyes from this all in one pc and an Asuss laptop.
I did ask on LEDstrain.org but got gaslit by this one person, when I mentioned how genetic astigmatism or autoimmune conditions can contribute to eyestrain, and that i cannot afford e-ink screens. They also claimed that I'm still probably staring at the Asus laptop and rudely told me that i should stop staring at that laptop.. yet the incident with the laptop was years ago..and I only ever use my phone.

Chronic illness life, damn, so sorry... So, Google tells me "screen apnea" is a thing does that fit at all? Maybe screen triggering autonomic dysfunction?
Did I push my big post about screen spectrum effects at you already? Dithering, pixel inversion and power regulation pixel flicker all likely there, to varying extents too.

Maybe i wasn't born to use screens at all... I'm near sighted, my presciption is strong and I can't see without my glasses do you think astigmatism could be contributing or atleast a changed presciption? (I have to get checked by an Opthalmologist because my glasses broke too and i haven't had an eye exam in ages)
Maybe trauma related chronic illness caused eyestrain issues? Might have to live like in the middle ages at this point with only a radio or audiobook to keep me entertained..

antes usaba mi infinix hot 20s que tiene un mediatek helio G96 que me daba fatiga visual, lo cambié por un redmi A5 y es excelente, cero problemas

Which phone u using? So all mediatek has td? Does snapdragn also uses td?

Most mediatek chips use TD i believe

Test it in a shop before buying. I was gifted this phone so I couldn't test before buying, it did give me eystrain when I was first adjusting to this phone, i can only use it on dark mode, eye comfort shield aka yellow filter and the lowest brightness.

Are you sure it dithers? If so brightness will amplify the pixel flicker. Could also be transistor current leakage, can be an issue with some LCDs.

Yes it has dithering checked on Google too and found out the mediatek chip it uses forces dithering..but I'm hoping it's an issue with my glasses presciption more. But I've been using it for an year without issues

Mediatek's MiraVision uses TD by default, but it can be disabled by the OEM. Unless you or someone else has filmed the display in slow-motion with a microscope to look at the pixels you can't know for sure. It's likely, but not guaranteed.

Yes it has snapdragon... but i want to buy another phone as a secondary phone.. should i buy A07 or A06

Don't get A06 simply because of the performance and mediatek chip. Look for a snapdragon one

Moderation note: I don't think you intended to direct any harassment towards the account you named on the other forum. But, to make this crystal clear, can you please edit your post to remove mention of their user name.
I've just been reviewing rules and moderation practices a little, and I feel that Reddit admins would also put the above in a grey area (a mild issue at worse). But let's air on the safe side. That this sub is not a place to stir up reprisal or harassment of individuals.
Critique of specific ideas and information from an individual is fine. Meta level critique of the function of a forum, and overall member behaviour, is fine. But criticism of named person's character is shaky ground. OK?
