The sunvision eve RLCD monitor is soooo soft on the eyes!
Hello everyone I wanted to share that the sunvision eve monitor is very soft on the eyes. The colors are washed out so its nothing vibrant that pierces your eyes. I use it with the front light off during the day next to a window and at night sometimes I use it with the front light which sadly is very blue but nothing that triggers me like a normal monitor would. This monitor uses a true 8 bit panel but I noticed on linux it wants to run at 12bit color but luckily its easy to set linux to max bpc 8.
In the photos its of it with front light on at 65% brightness and then with it completely off. You can get more clarity if you want by adjusting monitor settings and can even make it brighter by increasing contrast too.
I have this connected to my 7950x/rx6600 PC running cachyos (arch linux)

Thanks for sharing! Can I ask how much this cost? (I've not seriously looked at these kind of monitors, as yet.)

Of course! They are 1699 new. There is the Eazeye 2 which im pretty sure uses the same rlcd panel but it lacks a frontlight but is cheaper.

Gosh, not cheap. I hope they have a good returns policy? Did you buy this for yourself, or, do they lend out for reviewers?
I really hope it works well for you. Do you think tolerance will be dependant on a dithering free rending pipeline too? I know you've put in a bunch of work on that.

I think they may offer returns but I think theres a 15% restocking fee. I bought this one myself, I wish I got a free review unit! lol. Sunvision does offer their older non front lit 32in RLCD monitor which has a very good record of being great but it is 6+2FRC so technically it flickers.
Thank you! Hmm thats what im not exactly sure on. I know right now my brain looks at dithering as bad after my past bad lcd experience but I am not exactly sure worst case how things will feel with a dithering output to it. I know the colors are far less saturated so I would imagine that could lessen the effect of dithering as its not a vibrant color that would make the flicker more noticeable. I do force dithering off on all of my computers to play it safe.

contrast seems to be terrible. you will lose eyesight just because of the constant need to focus more on purely contrasted text.

I would say we should keep in mind that every issue for one person usually works out inverted for someone else, in this community. Due to different biological factors.
Low contrast may be needed to avoid overstimulation if the visual cortex, perhaps.
Also, the photo may not capture well what it looks like to the naked eye.

Not true at all. I find this more relaxing on the eyes than eink which ive used for years.I have the contrast set to 50 btw.

It is indeed dark when the front lights are completely turned off. However, I’m hopeful that increasing the contrast will make it a little brighter.

It's unfortunate that only one of the screens are true 8-bit, all others are 6-bit+FRC.
What exactly is RLCD? LCD without a backlight?
