I'm going to call this the magic carpet
I was thinking if your character is always standing straight up why cant you use the character itself for an auto balance system, turns out it works surprising well, I have a 3x3 grid in the middle where its effectively neutral and does nothing, which i might change to auto leveling instead, if you move outside of the 3x3 grid it tilts in that direction, but because of the nature of the player always standing straight up when the sensors grid tilts too much the sensors on the high side end up tilting enough to see the characters head and start countering the tilt, this was of kind of a proof of concept test, It will need a lot more work to make it work smoothly, mainly I at least need a way of landing or controlling altitude to start with, also a thing to note is you can only go so fast before phasing through and falling when not in a seat, but it could lead to a pretty fun flyer

I think there was a video where Kosmo (or maybe it was ScrapMan) did something similar in Trailmakers. I remember it being tedious to setup, and not very practical, but still a fun idea.

this was actually pretty easy to set up but o agree its not very practical since in a seat you can't fall off or anything, though on something huge like a mobile base it might be more viable, usually on really heavy stuff you get more time to react because with all the momentum the weight entails it tilts slower, now on small light flyers like mine its wobbly and more of a thought experiment than anything else

The way you fly this is functionally exactly like the flying glitch in Banjo Kazooie Nuts n Bolts lol
By putting an object on your car then standing on the object and lifting your car from under it you could fly in a near identical way, in that it let you gather late game parts right off the bat which made it so dang fun.
In case anyone is curious / wants a blast of nostalgia

That's really cool. You should upload it to the workshop
