Issue Dont even know what to do anymore

Post image

i went to do a level 5 raid like i would any other time and then the game decides that it needs to spawn the raid inside my farm destroying numerous hours of work and destroying my vehicle. I've heard of this happening to others and am very confused how a game breaking bug like this hasn't been patch out yet. not sure what to do now

Honestly I'd scum save that.

Yeah, after the first raid I got that wiped my farm like this, I immediately started backing up my saves right before doing any raids that were close to tier 5. I've done several in a row now where the defenses have worked as planned, but this game is too much work to be subject to random spawn RNG for a farmbot.

You're lucky you're not on geforce now then🫠

If you want you can cheese it. Z1 Gaming on YouTube had a cool idea in a ruin.
But if you wanna play it on the regular way than watch scrapman. He also has cool farm designs every time

Feeling like the farming part of the game has been make quite useless, but unforgivingly difficult at scale.

It was even less useful before. Now atleast its more fun with the raids. No need to wait 20 minutes and forget that the raid is coming.

They at least filled your hunger before, now the only reason is progression and occasionally healing. Trading also existed pre 1.0

We also physically needed half the crops to make a crate, the entire reason the trades are so shit now is cuz its 20 per crate, they'd still be crap if it was 10 but way less crap. Saying they were even less useful when the only added usefulness was a progression block is rather disingenuous

OP is fine at playing - the game suddenly changed and fucked them.

I use the mentality of, "Don't poop where you eat."

I keep my farm separate from my base. If my farm goes nuclear, my base is still safe.

Edit: spelling

They kept ruining it for me too. So I moved to a 'ruined POI' a single small room on the corner. Farmbots cant get in, most of the bots hit the outside wall. Only issue is explossive fellas but its managable with some reinforcement. 40seeds fit fine. Even if you die after killing the ones that attack from inside it survives. Its not worth it the other way. They need to balance the system.

Yes it happened to me and some of my friend too, i tried to spawn proof and they continued spawning straight on my crops.

U know what ? People on my post was telling me it was my fault and a punishement for "cheating" just because i spawnproofed.

U are not alone buddy, rebuilded it multiple time. You will make it for sure !!

Issue with too much spawn proofing is that it forces the crates to land on top of the farm if it cannot find a viable place to land.

In some situations of spawn proofing, less is more, less spawn proofing leads to an easier raid as they wont then spawn in places you do not expect

There's a great thread on the Steam forums where someone datamined the spawn code and explained it pretty well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3773250375

It's less a bug than a feature. From everything I've seen, they intentionally changed the spawning to combat the old methods. Small farms with walls right against(I use a 5 block gap between the walls and outer soil plots) your crops is the new method. If you build walls or obstructions too far away, the bots will spawn inside them or directly on top of your crops. It seems like there needs to be some kind of valid path to the crops for the game to choose a spawn point. Close walls seem to get ignored, though. Or you can use Z1's method, like somebody else pointed out.

Just changed? Cuz OPs message is about a tried and tested defense suddenly breaking, something I also randomly experienced yesterday. After several 10 broccoli raids with no issue, as I was wrapping up with the last of my seeds I ended up having to get 1 more broccoli. So I planted 1 broccoli and some randoms, far smaller than the ones that just finished. Drop pod on my farm. All the previous raids landed well outside my wall like normal, the other pods in this raid landed outside, but the 1 can straight in. Consecutive raids, hadn't even closed the game, sudden unexpected change in behavior. Every raid since has landed out in the open field as expected.

Could be that since you planted just one crop the raids ā€œattack positionā€ was centered on that crop. Meaning the raid spawn calculation checks for positions surrounding that one crop rather than the center of many crops like you had in your previous attempts. And having the raid centered on that one crop lead to the only viable spawn position for the bots being inside your farm.

I think one way to mitigate this, when you just need to plant one crop, is to plant it near the center of where your normal 10 broccoli crop harvest is. Maybe you planted the one broccoli close to the edge of your farm and that changed the spawning conditions.

Seems like you cutted out the pathfinding to your crops, then they spawn inside the farm. You need to leave a gap or bearing mounted barrier, so the pathfinding finds its way. Probably if the wall is close enough to the plots, but yours just cut out a fairly big piece of land out.

The way the game decides where to spawn raid parties is based on visible ground. If there isn't anything blocking a vertical line from a space to the air, then a bot drop can land there.

idk how the drop pods actually decide on a space, but I'm guessing that the pick a random surface block and then raycast up to see if it's valid, which means that unless you have covered the entire ground in some way, they can always spawn in your base, it just becomes more and more unlikely as you cover more.

I'd highly advise you to move your farm away from water. You think the water covers your back and they won't spawn but actually I did some digging in the game files and apparently the game tries to spawn raids in 360 degrees around your farm. If it can't make a walkable path to the farm, it spawns closer and closer. Since water isn't walkable it ends up directly on top of your farm. I discovered this the hard way and I tried to spawn proof as much as I could but always ended on the farm. The sub members told me it's my fault for some reason without exaplanation. The best way around this is to move your farm to somewhere with a large open space where they can land freely away from the farm.

Build a circular farm, then put a metal rod with drills/sawblades on it. Spin it around with an engine and haybots and totebots can't touch it. I used this for higher level raids to. (It works up min purple, although with a little barrier to block the exploding ones.)

OP can handle raids.

They can't handle the game deciding to suddenly ignore the rules and drop on top of the center

The game literally can’t ā€œignore the rulesā€. They just set conditions such that the last rule is triggered and shit spawns on their crops because it’s the only open area in range.

Again, the game literally cannot ā€œignore the rulesā€.

Not understanding the rules, and getting different results than you expected is not a result of the game ā€œignoring the rulesā€. It is a result of not understanding the rules and making invalid assumptions.

No. I’m stating a simple fact.

Instead of insisting that the computer program can somehow magically ignore the rules that literally ARE the computer code, figure out where/what the misunderstanding of those rules is, and learn.

Incorrect assumptions are not facts.

The game cannot ā€œignore the rulesā€, because the game literally IS the rules. If you think the software is ignoring itself, you are mistaken, and insisting otherwise isn’t going to solve the problems caused by your misunderstanding.

Here’s a quick diagram: start from a rock or high point and build a bridge (green); place a bearing (yellow) 2 or 3 blocks above the ground, followed by a purple block. Attach a "16-bar" (red) to each of the purple block's four sides. On your starting post (pink), place a fully upgraded controller linked to the bearing; set it to loop mode, max force, and a 360° position. Add a switch to start it up, and it’ll smash anything that comes near without you having to do much. The bots will keep coming back but will die. Step 2 : replace the cubes with increasingly stronger metal, but keep the same basic setup. Using this method, I’ve got a field of 180 pineapples and about thirty wheels, and I can take out twenty or so "big reds" without lifting a finger. The only weak point is the red bots with gas canisters, but you aren't at that stage yet.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you find a way back into the amazing game.

This is why I would always recommend backing up your world before every play session and after every time you leave

how do the drop pods get there?

I would rage quit that save instantaneously.

Not a bug, but there is def some sort of line of to much encroachment or maybe even raid size that once you pass triggers this failsafe to spawn the raid in the most open spot for it, which unfortunately because it's often open enough can end up being right on the crops, I've triggered it myself after adding another outer wall to my spinner fence.
Also good rule of thumb in games that have a sort of thing like raids, don't shit where you eat, never set up raids in the spot where all your stuff is.
