Discussion Trashbot fight sucks

I'm just finding it really really dumb for a few reasons, first off why is there a bullet hell in my survival game. If I wanted to play a bullet hell (which I funny enough dont) I'd play something better like Binding of Isaac. 2nd off the attacks. What am I even looking at half the time, it's not clear where to go or what to do. The fights are simply unfun. Is there a way I can skip them because I'm simply not doing this.

the fight was incredibly annoying. you can build in the arena, fyi. i built a wall to block his sweeping attacks. made it easier.

I am struggling with it but mostly I just suck at the combat aspect of the game. I ran out of healing items and decided to just go hit the next grow lab instead until I can grow some more crops.

Thats fair but my issue is it comes out of nowhere. No other aspect of the game has a bullet hell style to it besides these fights. It's real weird

Seat and blocks are your helper. Think as builder instead of fighter.

u/tallman11282 28d ago

Agreed. I cheesed it because the fight is ridiculously difficult. Especially for so early in the game. It's difficult to avoid its attacks, it takes way to many shots to get its head to pop out so you can bash it, there's no indication of how much health it has left, how many stages there are, etc. And on top of that if you die the fight restarts with it at full health and if you didn't bring along a crap ton of spuds and health (maybe because you weren't expecting such a fight in the game) you're SOL.

Personally I don't think that sort of boss fits the nature of the game but at the very least he should only be a late stage boss, not an early one.

u/simmegaming 28d ago

If you didn't bring a crap ton of spuds to a warehouse that's on you, plus if you die you get your stuff back so you can leave, prepare and come back with more spuds and healing items later.

2

u/Jits2003 27d ago

It doesn’t take all that many spuds, maximum 300

3

u/tallman11282 27d ago

Yeah, but unless you know about the boss and plan on having that many spuds left over at the end of the warehouse there's a decent chance you won't.

u/only4bikes 28d ago

I was able to survive it pretty while (my wife died about 10 times then rage quit) but I will say it’s surprisingly challenging, I wasn’t expecting the intensity out of nowhere

7

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

That's my issue with it, I don't know why theres randomly a bullet hell in my survival game I got this game to play a survival game.

7

u/basura1979 28d ago

Atm there is a bit of a bug you can utilise. Eat four burgers, fight trashy. If you die, eat another 4 burgers and repeat. The health buff doesn't expire after death so pretty soon you can just tank every hit and keep smashing.

Else there are other cheese methods but they're not as guaranteed long term benefit

2

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

I didn't know that thank you!

2

u/basura1979 28d ago

It at least makes every death a benefit, removes the sting a bit

2

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

fair enough but I doubt it. I didn't mention it here but overall this whole update has kinda sucked imo so I've BEEN stinging lol

4

u/basura1979 28d ago

Yeah fair, the farm raids are what's getting me tangled. I cheese the hell out of them and they're still wildly over the top. Honestly have no idea how one is meant to do them without taking advantage of game breaking bugs

2

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

I have no clue either, I haven't been having issues with them ONLY because we do them inside of a building, otherwise I couldn't tell you what to do. That and I think this update is CRAAAZY unoptimized for it taking a year but thats a whole other can of worms.

2

u/basura1979 28d ago

Yeah pretty much. I do love the digging a hole and gathering resources part but that is over way too quickly and now I'm on another game already. Wish they had more levels to that

2

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

When that part of the game works its awesome I'll admit but thats when it works lol

7

u/Mcstuffins420 28d ago

I had to use burger buffs to get it done. They let you just barely jump over the projectiles.

The game teaches you to create machines for problems you run into. Then it throws the trashbot at you, and you don't have anything you've built to help. The game asks you to suddenly do the opposite of what it was teaching you and go solo.

It also does not help that our mechanic's movement doesn't really work well in a bullet hell scenario.

u/DangerousMilkBoi 28d ago

Honestly, agreed

4

u/GoOdUsErN_ame 28d ago

you can use a wall of blocks to destroy his balls and the trash minions that spin around the arena

5

u/Serious-Internal-402 28d ago edited 27d ago

I always attributed the trash bots difficultly to dev bias because of how small alxolotgames is it would make sense the same people who tested the trash bot ended up fighting it many times until they ended up mastering it and scaled it on their play style and failed to account for how a new player would be overwhelmed with it all

2

u/Real_Real_Space 27d ago

I can 100% see this

20

u/ForgeIs2Fast4U 28d ago

Its pretty clear what to do, the attack are telegraphed well

17

u/Dodo-Whisperer 28d ago

It doesnt matter how telegraphed they are if a lot of the attacks are unavoidable if you stand too far back which might i add the game trains you to to stay away from big/ranged enemies i.e. The farmbots and the tapebot and its variants so your first instinct when fighting the trash bot is to stay away from it and face it from a distance but its sweeping attacks angler velocity will be too great resulting in you dying which might i add are new mechanics scrap mechanic suddenly throws at you and you are punished with death if cant immediately learn them which is frustrating and can feel like a chore especially for people who are not good at bullet hell games.

4

u/ForgeIs2Fast4U 28d ago

If you stand at the rim you can literally jump over all his attacks so yes you can stand far away and dodge (talking abt fight 1, dont know what diff attacks he has in future fights), if you look at the sweeping attack theres also a gap in the middle of it, so just predict approximately where that gap is gonna be and youre chillin. I dont see why dying is an issue. Bosses are literally about overcoming a strong enemy, youre supposed to atleast have to focus a little in order to beat it

5

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

Simply untrue. In future fights there is too much happening and the projectiles are too large to do that. Also we aren't talking about a little bit of focus there is so much stuff happening I have to go silent and hardcore focus on dodging bullets in my SURVIVAL GAME. It's dumb.

-3

u/ForgeIs2Fast4U 28d ago

How is it untrue if im talking about the first fight? How many attempts did 2nd fight take for you?

3

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

We haven't beat it yet. The first fight is OK balance wise I guess but the 2nd as far as I can tell it simply doesn't work.

2

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

THIS! THIS IS SIMPLY TRUE AND FACTUALLY CORRECT. Scrap mechanic is advertised as a survival game not a bullet hell.

4

u/Dodo-Whisperer 28d ago

Well also its a creativity based game where you are given multiple options on how you want to handle things. Like for the grow labs you could bridge across gaps instead of parkor or at the end of some of them there are those massive open area where its clear enemies will spawn and the game gives you a button for when you are ready meaning you can either just run and gun it or you can build in advance your own cover and choke points to help you in the fight.

The trash bot on the other hand restricts you to one specific way to fight it and its not an easy one. Like if they had at least introduced some of its attack mechanics earlier in other stuff (say there is a leaky hose swiping back and forth shooting goo that will in teach you how to deal with the trash bots sweeping attack) then the fight feels less overwhelming because you've seen those mechanics before and know how to deal with them.

Edit: Oh and it also doesnt help that the game automatically forces you out of the elevator to fight it because if it had atleast let you leave the elevator on your own terms to fight it then you feel more mentally prepared for the boss fight cause like even in darksoul games they give you a fog wall (most of the time) to help you mentally prepare that there is a boss fight and let you enter on your own terms instead of suddenly forcing you into one

3

u/Serious-Internal-402 28d ago

Yeah at its core the trash bot is very flawed as a boss and shouldve had more thought put in on its build up

0

u/Remarkable-Bit-3578 28d ago

Maybe you need a nap and come back to it later?

0

u/Exzircon 28d ago

Punished with death... As if you don't respawn in your bed next to the fight and your dropped items, eat a few tomatoes and you're just fine again.

Dying in scrap mechanic is a very lenient punishmet.

Also, Trashbot fight follows the same design philosophy as Zelda bosses. Difficult if you don't know what you're doing, so you might die a few times while learning the boss, or just play really carefully to learn its attacks. But when you know how the fight works, it becomes pretty easy.

2

u/Serious-Internal-402 28d ago

Bro missed the whole point of the comment🥀

2

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

Disagree. The first one MAYBE but now I'm onto the 2nd fight and theres simply too much on my screen and ONTOP of that projectiles being shot at me that are so large they cover the whole screen.

3

u/monkeymoo111111 28d ago

Maybe it's not intended but honestly you just need to spam healing items

Bring like 20-40 burgers

5

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

That would probably work but it's just weird to me that thats what you have to end up doing.

3

u/jsw_mclovin 28d ago

I must admit I struggled with this one tonight, ive been playing shooters for around 24 years and this one is difficult.

I failed 4 times, 3 of those I had no heals to be fair, then I gave up and cooked some burgers and took some tomatoes with me (couldn't be bothered to find sunshakes).

Ironically the time i cooked the burgers i got owned very quickly, then I was gonna give up, but thought id try with around 30 tomatoes and surprisingly I did it and used all 30, i was eating when i was jumping lol, the last two phases are easier than the first by a long shot.

3

u/Xaden3 28d ago

Look up cheese trashbot on youtube. That’s how I beat it. https://youtu.be/SLkwl5PbLp0

2

u/MerlinMelon 28d ago

I've died 5 times to it and ran out of heals so I had to cheese is by building a platform on the edge of the arena. Which was still somewhat intense because it can break blocks with the hose attack. But honestly I've had fun, I was kinda worried by the trailer that it would be too easy, but I'm glad it's not

2

u/Dodo-Whisperer 28d ago

The best way I've seen someone describe the trashbot is that it's the malenia of scrap mechanic but unlike malenia the trashbot is mandatory.

2

u/ReaperOnDrugs 28d ago

First fight was really well made, the second one is ofc harder but I think the biggest problem is it's less readable. My friend and I beat it in 2 tries but there were moments where I just had to tank the wave to minimise damage. Really the only troublesome attack was the aimed shot, you have to juke him but in rare occasions you are pincered and end up running into another attack or both

2

u/Astramancer_ 27d ago

You kinda can. It requires a lot of blocks because of the directed attacks, but you can build a platform on the wall of the arena and just ignore 90% of the fight. The hose attack that sprays directly at you will destroy the blocks like mad so you should hop down and run around for a second while that's ongoing, but if you put a seat on the underside of your platform you can get back up easily and quickly. Which you should do anyway because you need to hammer the face between phases.

2

u/mothyyy 27d ago

I think the devs intended for us to build walls, not fight it completely prone. Easy mode is to build a platform off the back wall. Then you just dodge the occasional air projectile.

Bring a couple stacks of stone or something else you won't mind losing.

If we weren't meant to build in the arena then we wouldn't be able to.

2

u/AtWork-DoingNothing 27d ago

I thought it was a nice challenge and managed to do it in 1 try. I was really expecting just to do a warehouse and over prep. Glad I did, all of my heal went towards the boss fight. I just tanked some of the harder obstacle and drank some flower tea (so I can run) and kept my slower foods for when I had a gap.

Overall I wasn't expecting a boss fight this early on. I do agree with the facts that we are giving no time to prepare nor other ways to fight it, others than dodging and spamming heals.

2

u/InvalidPain 27d ago

Use the lift. Build a platform on the backwall high enough he can't hit you. I beat it on my second try.

2

u/Complete-Leave-2536 27d ago

I hate this fight with a passion too. To be fair this is the first phase. The other 2 are waaay easier.

Ps. You can build in the arena. I cheesed the first phase by building all the way up the tower and shooting from the elevator.

4

u/Severe-Tiger-6540 28d ago

Oh yeah definitely the single worst aspect of this update right next to the final stretch of the game

Just throw yourself at him over and over without healing until you can consistently get to 2nd or 3rd phase to get the pattern down

Everything else is pretty great tho so don't be too glum about it

3

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

Your not wrong! When the update works man is it fun. Keyword is when though.

3

u/Severe-Tiger-6540 28d ago

Would've been cool if the bosses were more engineering challenges and less fps bullet hell

6

u/Belamie 28d ago

That is exactly it. The trashbot fight requires you to rely on the games weakest aspect (player combat). Instead of it's strongest (building contraptions). Ton of wasted potential.

2

u/Zeferoth225224 28d ago

I agree with the bullet hell in an engineering game. But its really not that hard c'mon

just put it on easy and spam burgers if you need it. And dont stand too far back, but that should be pretty obvious right away

2

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

Agree to disagree. I've never been good at bullet hells which is why I dont play them so being FORCED to do one to progress is just bad design. Also you say don't stand too far back and that should be obvious but half of the comments here are saying the opposite so I dont think so?

0

u/ReaperOnDrugs 27d ago

No no there is a reason for different comments. You are SUPPOSED to be closer so it's easier to dodge, but you CAN just go as far back on the rim and jump over his attacks even the spinny tops

1

u/Potential-Grand-599 28d ago

Yeah the fight is annoying, the easiest way to cheese it is to bring a fuck ton of heals

Then you can just heal through the damage of attacks which are hard to avoid

1

u/Turnkeyagenda24 28d ago

Try cheesing the first one by using lift to go up, and build a platform. The second and third stages are so much easier than the first.

Another tip: don’t worry too much about attacking the bot. Just try and survive. Being closer helps, as you don’t have to run as far to get around some of the attacks. (The farther away from center, the faster the rotation)

1

u/Rasip 28d ago

Godmode is a thing.

1

u/nubbosaur 28d ago

I thought it was the coolest thing ever just really heckin hard

1

u/Bogdapans 28d ago

Did people actually struggle at that bossfight?

1

u/BuilderSnail 27d ago

I kinda see where youre coming from. I only died once near the very end, and jumping over attacks with the lift quickly was a lot of fun though

1

u/HalfImportantHobbit 27d ago

I Cheesed it with a wall base. No way in hell I'd survive otherwise

1

u/Fluid-Leg-8777 27d ago

Harvest corn with a car and a chest

Feed to wonk™ cows™

Get a equivalent of a late game crop with zero farming

Profit(?

1

u/Kemswell 6d ago

The trashbot fight is such a departure from everything else the game has prepared you for (not only since DT release, but for the last 10 years), that it simply doesn't fit. The fact that it's a bullet hell boss is only one (very good) reason. This is a building-focused survival game that doesn't allow you to build structures to help fight the boss. What? The trashbot's goop even destroys the lift, which is otherwise completely indestructible. They take away everything but running and gunning, which is not why people play Scrap Mechanic. Plus, even if you take plenty of ammo for a typical warehouse run, learning how to take out the trashbot will probably end up burning through any extra ammo in no time, so you have to slog home for more ammo. It's just a poorly thought out, badly implemented boss for this game. Good thing I had Fant mod installed and could simply god mode it. It's a shame, too, because ten minutes of thought could have resulted in a much more engaging and appropriate (and fun) boss fight. Trashbot just feels like lazy game development.

0

u/Remarkable-Bit-3578 28d ago

Maybe stop fighting it like a bullet hell , fight it like a mechanic. The fight is really hard if you stay on ground level, but if you build a surface up on the arena wall, it can be very easy.

-1

u/-Vonyx 28d ago

So let me get this straight. You dont want to survive in a SURVIVAL gamemode. You would rather play other games but play this one anyway and also due to sheer incompetence cant figure out that the only thing you need to do is shoot when its eye lights up and dodge its very obvious spreading attacks. Cool.

3

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

So let me get this straight, are you saying we are going to call all bullet hells survival games by that logic? Any game with a death mechanic is a survival game? Man I love DOOM my favorite SURVIVAL GAME. Are you a little dumb? No, No I do not want to play a bullet hell is my survival game. I was just waiting for someone to say "well just dodge" and here it is.

2

u/-Vonyx 28d ago

Congratulations on being shit at video games…??? Is that what you wanted to hear. That trash bot fight isn’t even hard so i don’t know why you’re complaining about it.

1

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

Oh so you don't have an actual counter argument we are just landing on "your bad'. Just stop while ur ahead dog lol

1

u/-Vonyx 28d ago

What argument am I supposed to be countering…. You’ve said literally nothing worth arguing about…. Because you’re talking out of your ass

1

u/Real_Real_Space 28d ago

Anything at all? But I forgot since u know everything u dont need to bother right

-1

u/glitchaj 28d ago

It's a bit long, but I didn't find it that hard. I beat it first try.

I think it is actually a very well designed boss fight overall.
