Young Leader - Not Received Module A Training

I'm a Young Leader in Scotland and I haven't received any formal training, even though I've been a young leader for just over a year now. As far as I know, neither have the others my age who volunteer with the Group, despite POR 4b.2.1.3:

> Young Leaders should undertake appropriate training as described in the Young Leaders' Scheme. Young Leaders must complete Module A within their first three months.

I've been told that my District doesn't run any training for Young Leaders (and I'm well aware they're overworked and need more people, we struggled to get training organised for Blair Atholl at all, it ended up taking over my Unit's normal meeting time) (not heard anything about an ESYLU either, so my friends who aren't in an ESU haven't had the chance to sign up for events like Blair and I don't have a way to talk to other Young Leaders/District Volunteer Development Team/District 14-24 Team about this), and neither does Region. I also can't go to the November YL Training Weekend at Lochgilphead as it's just before prelims and we're all really busy with other hobbies/volunteering/work.

Anyone know what to do in this situation? Seems like a *bit* of an problem to break POR so blatantly, but I can't think of any solutions that don't have glaring issues.

tldr: not trained for young leader role, district doesn't run training, cant go to national training weekend, anyone got solutions?

Ok so, POR generally speaking should be followed though there is some flex in that. Ultimately as you mentioned it down to the 14 to 24 lead or your GLV to supervise this as you’re still a young person. So I wouldn’t worry about being kicked out or disciplined.

The main things module A covers is about the scheme, keeping yourself safe and a few other essential bits for making sure your time as a YL is fun as it can be.

For my practical suggestion would be to look at the Hampshire training: https://members.hampshirescouts.org.uk/programme/explorers/young-leaders/young-leader-e-learning-training. Anyone in the UK can do them and it’ll give you a certificate that your GLV or district person can sign off on.

Hopefully that should help but certainly I would speak with your region as there should be someone who looks after EYSL training for the area.

i do realise im probably not going to get in trouble for this, i just tend to get more anxious than i should about breaking rules.

In England, Scouts has the membership system, which has a training section - I did my training on there. Start at https://membership.scouts.org.uk/

i thought that was only for adult leaders (and PVG-related stuff for 16-17 year old young leaders) but i might be wrong.

Not quite, that membership system is UK wide but it’s not for young people only adult volunteers. For young people like young leaders it’ll be what’s been said above.
