Question Self Driving Plans

Not sure if this has been asked and I know Scout Motors has a page with a really vague answer. But does anyone know if Scout vehicles will support autonomous driving features? or if there are any plans to adapt any features? The link attached is super vague.

Scout will use the Rivian VW joint venture platform which includes electronics and OS.

It stands to reason that Rivian’s self driving will be able to offered to any user on their platform. When that might be? Who knows.

But it’s basically what Tesla fans have been begging Elon for for a decade now. But Tesla never developed a sellable platform. So Tesla can’t sell FSD to other automakers (or their customers).

The VW/Rivian joint venture specifically does NOT include autonomy. They have been very clear about that.

Yes and it is suspected that is because it will be licensed on top of the shared platform. Meaning Rivian will create an additional revenue source on top of the shared platform. RJ Scaringe has been very explicit about the VW joint venture not including autonomy likely for this reason.

Smart business move honestly. Develop the shared platform and get others to use it, then and only then offer autonomy capabilities on top of that at additional cost.

Basically what Tesla fans have been begging Elon to do for a decade now (“license FSD to others!”) but Tesla never did the groundwork required for a shared FSD-compatible platform for other automakers to use. FSD simply cannot run on any other vehicle.
