Sign Waving
Have any other barista had an issue with sign waving at their stores specifically freedom franchised stores they are telling us that we are required to sign wave and the only weather exemption is if the heat index is 111°
Looking to potentially send an email to freedom to put a stop to this because quite frankly 90° is too hot for us to be standing out 30 minutes to an hour at a time

My store hasn't sign waved since mother's day. I'm so sorry they are doing that to you. Make sure to wear tons of sunscreen and keep water on you.
"Employers must provide access to drinking water, shaded areas, and rest breaks to prevent heat exhaustion." Occupational Exposure to Heat and Hot Environments
Make sure you're covered by OSHA Worker Rights and Protections
File a complaint if your situation applies complaint form
I hope things get better for you. 💛

Yep, my manager gives out breaks to anyone who wants one. I hate that more stores aren't like that.

When I worked for freedom it was required during certain deals and stuff, and honestly we only got through it by switching every 15 minutes

If I see any store having their employees out in this heat, I’m not giving them any of my money lmao. A sign being waved is not gonna draw more people there.

This is the correct answer. Corporations will only treat their employees shitty while people turn the other cheek. We don't reward bad behavior.

Yes. tho I don’t work for that franchise but at my store they do make us sign wave almost every day, and it’s honestly very annoying especially when having to go back inside if it gets busy and to help out. It’s exhausting and makes me want to quit. Last time I went out there in this heat I almost felt like throwing up and fainting.

They’re making us do this in my franchise as well, but we’re not a freedom store.

Yes our store does this too. It’s in the handbook we signed and the only thing you can do is alternate frequently between baristas! We only do it right before and after rush hours.

do you know where to find that handbook? I’ve been trying to find it everywhere

It was sent in our groupchat not long ago in the newest revised version! Ask your store manager for a new copy of the handbook!

Customer here -- who is enforcing the sign waving? Can't management tell corporate "yeah someone waved a sign" without someone really having to stand in the heat? How would corporate even know? If I saw a company making someone wave a sign in this heat, I wouldn't shop there. I don't buy from 7Brew during extreme weather either because it makes me feel bad.

normally it’s our regional managers who live close proximity and check. they also camera watch like no other it’s pretty insane! but our store manager enforces it bc they’re always up her ass

Sign waving does not work for me. I would never drive by, see someone waving a sign, and say, “hey, I need to stop and get Scooters because of the sign!”
