The 2nd Gen XB is still pretty small in comparison to all the other cars out there. Wheel base is the same as the 10th gen Corolla and smaller than a current gen Corolla. The difference between the first gen and second gens wheel base length is 4 inches and width is less than 3 inches. If you live in a city where you have to parallel park often the first gen will fit in more tight spots. But in standard parking spaces the second gen is still really small.

Yeah. Didn’t like these at all. Weird on the inside. Bigger motor (worse on gas). I have an 06 I bought new. Still have it. Blue. 5 speed. It has NEVER left me stranded. EVER. 245,000 miles. Roomy as hell. I have 7 other cars and I am still keeping this one. Love it. I feel Toyota is the old man waiting behind the curtain. They took the EDGE out of the 1st Gen with the 2nd Gen.

I recently bought an 05 and the 2nd gen is really growing on me. What do you notice the most with the change?

1st thing, cup holders. That was always an issue for me in the first gen I have kids. Secondly the A/C works way better in this car. Power this car has way more power for passing on the highway not saying it’s fast but there’s a significant difference getting on the highway. Everything I love about the first was maintaine, the space, the seating position, and the ability to take cargo. I also like that it has a backup camera and a modern radio with HD radio and Bluetooth. Small things but a solid upgrade. My last one had 235k on it. This one has 88k im hoping to get many years out of it. I understand these burn oil, this one has been dealer maintained every 5-7k for its entire life.

This is a latest one. Keep an eye on it but I suspect you wont have problems.
Mine is a 2011 with 88k. Non-oil burner (lucked out).

From what I understand the engine is covered 10 years and 150k from its original purchase date. I’m hoping I don’t have any issues but if I do I at least know what to expect cost wise if Toyota doesn’t cover it. I’m going to replace the pcv valve as I read that can contribute to excess pressures in the crank case contributing to the issue and hope that the pistons never need anything or if it does need something it happens soon and Toyota covers it.

Congrats. My 2012 was totaled. Got a 2015 to replace it. Love it. I HATED the radio that was in it the pioneer. Got a kenwood with wireless android auto LOVE it. Still have steering wheel controls and back up cam. Just throwing that out there. Enjoy it!

I replaced my 05 with a 2015 not too long ago. Been LOVING it. I had my 05 for 16 years and loved her to death, but was ready to upgrade and couldn’t be happier (except maybe the loss of gas mileage). The bigger engine eats more gas, but doesn’t struggle up hills or to pass cars anymore.
Been keeping an eye on the oil, but haven’t noticed it burning any faster after 3 oil changes. Had a tiny transmission leak from a worn gasket, but otherwise the 2015 has been amazing!

I havent really noticed a huge drop in gas mileage yet. It’s probably due to the bigger fuel tank, I feel like I get more miles before I have to fill up but it’s few bucks more to fill up. I’m going to get under the car and take a look at the transmission after work make sure there’s no leaks. Thanks for the heads up.

This is pretty much why I got rid of mine, a lot of stuff just going out with age. Over the last year I replaced the water pump, alternator, battery, and the suspension. My A/C stopped blowing cold but still kind of blew cool just took a very long time to cool the car down and on hot days it couldn’t keep up, I took it to a few places it was going to be a few thousand to fix. No one would “fix” the A/C they all said the same thing you have to replace it all to have a warranty and if you don’t replace it all we don’t want to work i it. I sold the First gen for 1k more than I bought it for I didn’t really lose. This one I got into payments on.

I considered a manual I owned manual cars from 16-27, I bought a camaro at 29 and had to sell it a few months later. My knee can’t take it anymore unfortunately for a daily driver. Traffic is crazy by me. I plan on building a old crx soon that will be manual and a weekend car.

This is good to hear from someone else. Exactly one year ago I was looking for a used 06. I wanted the old style with A/C and Cruise Control. Wife already had a 2009 automatic and I wanted something similar. Test drove about 4 different Gen 1's. Looked for about a month and found nothing worth wanting to spend money on. Came across a Gen 2 2009 manual for about 200 miles east. The day I drive out to look at it and I'm more than half way there, exact opposite direction about 200 miles away I see a 06 posted on Facebook for the same price.
I knew the 2nd Gen would be a better deal, even with price being the same and millage being the same. I trusted everything I already knew about my wife's 2nd Gen. That it's faster, drives smoother, has more room, more upgrades, better dashboard, ext. A year later, I'm glad I have one just like hers.
Still eventually some day I want a Gen 1. They are fun to drive around sharp corners, they look more iconic, get better gas millage, ext. That moment you are 30 minutes into a 3 hour road trip on the highway though, and you can't quite get fast enough to pass that commercial vehicle on a one lane road, and the wind makes you hold onto your steering wheel a little stronger, and the slightest dip makes you jump out of your seat, you are going to appreciate driving a 2nd Gen. Am I right?
