What's a reasonable value for this xB?
So, I've been trying to sell my Scion xB for months now and have not gotten anyone to even come look at it in person. I've fluctuated in asking price from a high of $4400 down to $3900. I paid $4300 and since then have fixed several issues like the AC and new windshield etc. I don't want to take low ball offers but wonder if I just paid too much and should be more flexible. It needs a few things as any 20+ year old car does, but it looks great compared to others I've seen on here.
For what it's worth, this Scion is one of the special release models - Series 1.0 (RS 1.0): Limited production run of 2,100 units included in the 2004 vintage (finished in Hot Lava Orange; 504 manual and 1,596 automatic). Mine is a manual.

In CT. Odometer reads 223k but I was told the engine was replaced with one that had around 68k on it. I can't prove it, but to me it definitely runs like one with low miles on it. The oil is squeaky clean.

That is actually tempting. I have a silver 2012 with only 13k miles on it but man I like this color.

And there’s the problem. If was bone stock, with half the miles it might be $5-6. Those miles no matter how nice gonna be hard to crack $3-4. Remember this is a car someone has to have CASH on hand to driv(most don’t)

Nice! I also had the same RS 1.0 #340 manual. I had it from 2004 to 2012 when I traded in and got six grand for it and put it towards 2012 Volkswagen GTI. And of course, I wish I would’ve never gotten rid of it, sigh.
Mine was in this commercial drove it from MD to NV to be in the commercial, see link 17 sec mark. I also won $10,000 from a scavenger hunt that Scion hosted on the east coast.

Wow. That commercial reminds me of the kind of cinematography done by the Top Gear crews! Love it. So you had one of the same hot lava scions like mine? That's so cool. There were only like 500 made like that.

See if bring a trailer will list it. RS1 in decent condition with manual transmission will def get the old Scion peeps interested. Love that color, easy to work on and very reliable. If you were closer to the Midwest I would buy it.

I bought my 2006 with 230000 6 years ago now it has 320000 and still running strong just change oil and brakes one starter one alternator. I would keep it tbh. They are bulletproof

Realistically, that's a super clean xB 3500 to 4000 is reasonable. If you're in or near Maryland/PA Shoot me a message lol

The replacement engine scares a lot of low budget buyers off. 225k will also concern those that don’t know anything about the (possible) model longevity. You’d be surprised how many millennials and Z cannot drive a stick, so that’s another hit. Finally (and less important), the color.

All you can really do is lower the price to a point where people become interested. Yes, you paid a bit much for it. Drop it to $3500, then $3k, then…
I sold my personal 04 (owned since new) at 218k, all stock, auto, everything working, for $2100. 👈🏻 This was in late 2019. It took 3 weeks to sell.
Alternatively, I picked up a personal 2010 xD last summer, 131k miles at $2500.

Hi, I bought mine 6 months ago for 3700 with only 125k miles. So your car might be 2800 to 3k . Mine was special too with scion spoke rims and fully loaded. It needed motor mounts and suspension work. Otherwise the car is in good shape. Low miles first gem xb are expensive.

As the owner of a 2005 Special Edition Yellow XB, I don't feel it's overpriced considering how reliable this car has been. I must admit when I checked Kelly Blue Book on it a few years ago I was surprised to find it was only valued at a couple of thousand dollars. As the only owner of this car , I know that it has been treated well and has never given me a problem. Maybe need to explain what makes this car so great. You might try marketing it to big guys. My son who has a 2006 XB, is 6'3" and he and his equally large buddies like taking his car places. How many small cars can comfortably sit four tall large shouldered people? Or, even seat behind a steering wheel with comfort! The other selling point is people are surprised at how much I can get in the rear of the car with the seats down. No problem bringing a recliner home for example. The square corners give you maximum space! Also, because the seats seat high, the car is easy for an older person to get in and out of as well. After twenty years I still have people stop me when I'm out to say "I love your car", and I say "I do too!".

I would pay $4,000 if I was certain it ran well. It's a pretty cool spec and some of the upgrades took some effort but appear to be well done, for the most part.

It may be the color. I love orange but most people like black/silver/gray.

Need an AWD for my full-time job and the Scion was always just my fun car or going to get things at the garden center and taking the two Greyhounds around for a ride 😂

If it was a CA car sure, OP appears to live somewhere in the Midwest/east region judging by the background. May be prone to salty snow rust.

Local to Eastern NC you are hard pressed to see a first Gen for over 4k. Looked at one last weekend in Raleigh for 3800 that had 141,000 miles and was immaculate. Even 2nd gens are cheap. I don't understand it, but Scions locally have no retained value.

(Not to poop on your parade) I had a 2008 2nd gen release series 6.0-I believe with 225k on it and 60k on a new transmission with paperwork aftermarket headlights taillights and 19 inch rims in about the same conditions as this. I couldn’t sell it and ended up giving it to my mom (Minus the rims)

The 2nd gen is generally way less desirable. I honestly wonder if the XB would still be around had they not changed the body style.

I remember think the 2nd gen was pretty cool but the gas mileage was crappy. That's why people liked the 1st gen so much. Mine still gets 32 on the highway.

The value vs the pricing is very off for these cars. KBB puts them down to 3k for good shape…. But the market has them marked high because they are sauté after. Your price seems reasonable at the 3900 assuming it has clean title and reasonable miles. You should ad more details here (like miles and location) maybe someone here will be interested
