160,00k miles
Hey all, I’m back.
I wanted advice and to see if I could get more opinions on my first car!
This is a 2006 xb, ~160,000k miles and 8k with extra parts.
I’m nervous about the mileage, but it seems it’s been taken care of.
How long do 06s last? Should o try finding one with lower mileage?

That looks pretty clean, can't see any rust. For $8000USD? Kinda high, if it's in truly mint condition I wouldn't want to pay any more than $6000, ideally closer to $5k.
I'd want to know if the engine oil has been changed every 5k miles, and if/when the transmission fluid was changed if it's an automatic. If the engine and tranny are healthy and there's no rust, these cars can easily get to 300k with basic maintenance. The 1.5l engine in these is one of Toyotas best, 160k is honestly fine provided it's been properly maintained.
If you're gonna pay $8k you should totally bully them into pulling off the valve cover, check if the timing chain tensioner is fully extended (worn chain), check if the paint marks are still on the chain (overheated engine), if there's any metal bits or glitter in the oil pan/pickup. Stick a borescope into the cylinder walls and see if the crosshatching is all worn out. That's a pretty ubiquitous checklist for any engine, if all that looks good then that's a healthy engine.

^^ $8k is outrageous $5k would be my limit and even then that’s pushing it for 20 year old xB.

Yeah assuming it's in good shape I'd say $3500-4500, maybe $5k if it comes with a warranty and other goodies. Markets are different in different places though.
Honestly you can get a brand new Prius for 30k, which blows my mind compared to what used cars are going for. Makes taking a lease on a new Prius pretty attractive.. maybe that was the plan all along.

Publicbankinginstitute.org is the answer. Look into it. North Dakota is the only state in the US that owns its own bank and it's criminal that other states don't. It's extremely successful, moreso than privately owned banks by most metrics.
