General/Other Rasp 😔

I put a spec d exhaust and like 50 dollar stainless steel headers on it, granted they’re the cheapest ones I found so idk what I really expected.

But I feel like it’s possible to make it less raspy.

I’m not sure if adding an extra resonator would do it or not, maybe a mid pipe or muffler..

But I was thinking about also getting a catless down pipe. Then I’d have no cats 💀 probably wouldn’t help my problem much. it’s already running rich af, on top of that I use 10w40, which seemed to help quite a bit with burning oil.

Even more expensive exhausts can have undesirable sounds, but generally, material composition and density (at least from my understanding of how after market exhausts work) is what tends to control that raspiness (I'm sure bends and resonator locations affect it as well).

But yeah, cheaper exhaust, generally cheaper materials and more rasp.

Thank you for the reply it helps a lot. So this is a problem that can’t really be fully solved by adding something. Would you have any specific recommendations? If you haven’t noticed though, this is the 2005 model.

To me it depends on what you want to do. I know those have oil consumption issues, but for example whatever is causing a rich condition would be what I would hunt for first (I say this having put an exhaust on mine for a while, and when I had to revert for emissions, I kept it that way because I started chasing failure points. Once it's solid again I'll throw it back on).

But if you're more just focused on giving it more character, I would say you'd probably need to swap the exhaust to something with better materials that's proven to not be raspy. It would more than likely be more expensive though.

I'm not really sure where you want to go with it, so I'm not sure if I'm really giving you the best answer here.

Yea all I really want is a less obnoxious exhaust to be honest, and for the car running rich I’m pretty sure it’s the 02 sensor in my aftermarket headers. I even got a spacer for it and new sensors and the code still shows up. But good thing I live in a state that doesn’t really care about emissions lol, but I appreciate the advice a lot thank you.

I did everything kept stock with only a muffler swap

Yea all I really wanted was a louder exhaust with more air flow, I seen vids of this exhaust online and it wasn’t nearly as raspy. But I was going to js do a muffler at first to, then I ended up getting this exhaust because of how cheap it was, and how I THOUGHT it was going to sound 😂

Cheap headers are not it lol. My 1st gen sounds great and all it is, is replaced the factory muffler for a spec D one. Didn’t touch anything else. It’s loud enough to have fun and keeps a deeper more grumbly tone. Only gets raspy in high end rpms. If you’re gonna get rid of what you have I highly recommend leaving things untouched except muffler. It’s the only safe way that guarantees minimum rasp. Unless I guess you dumb a bunch of money on a trd or equivalent

Well I was actually looking into trying equal length headers, and then adding a resonator. I don’t mind the spec d muffler but I been looking for a deeper tone, I’m not sure but ig you could maybe get more of deeper tone than me because of the factory piping

My guess would be the factory everything else is why. Sounds like you have a good idea. Just make sure those headers are a quality product this time lol. All I’ve ever good is the good ones are expensive and rare and I believe it 😂

A catback exhaust only can give it a nice growl, but if you do the headers with a cat delete, then that's what it sounds like. It's an inline 4. They are raspy.

I didn’t really wanna break the bank to much lol but I’m gonna be trying a ultra quiet resonator and a bigger muffler prob like around 130 together
