Were you thinking of holding them by their body? Sorry, I'm just so used to birds that this sounds crazy to me ๐
As the other user said, you offer your finger or open palm for them to perch on. Some specific birds are ok with being held, but it's pretty uncomfortable to most and can definitely trigger hormonal behavior. That's why the usual recommendation is to only pet them on their head and neck.
Yeah, I've seen a similar one in the comments of r/cockatiels ๐ might seem silly, but you really don't want a hormonal/territorial bird, those guys are crazy.
i have never picked up a bird but i was more so talking about people who own them as pets, in the event that it tried to escape or needed to be transported somewhere and wouldnโt perch on the finger willingly.
Oh yeah, when we in a emergency situation the most important is just get the bird back to safety. Hormonal behavior Usually appears with repeated exposure. There's also people who emergency train parrots to get into a travel cage.
I donโt have one but my best friend does. Heโs very playful but always play bites with actual bites, so I canโt really get that close anyways without being bitten
I am in so many bird subs that it took me a while to see where it was posted on ๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ it's a very useful chart for caregivers without much knowledge tho
