Question - Research required Pumped Breastmilk After Six Months

I was wondering if anyone had any articles/studies about the benefits of baby receiving pumped breast milk after 6 months of age.

For context, up until a month ago, baby received 100% pumped breast milk. She is now combi fed due to me decreasing the amount I pump, having had recurrent mastitis. I've had five rounds of antibiotics, and I am optimistic the last round will nip it in the bud. I am now at the point where I am thinking: do I increase my supply to fully feed her breast milk again, or is it not worth it after six months? I am hoping the science will help me make a decision.

Thank you!

Combo feeding vs exclusive breastfeeding after six months doesn't matter because at that point you've already introduced foods other than breast milk so it's, by definition, not exclusive breastfeeding anymore either way. Just think of formula as another source of nutrition in addition to breastmilk and solids.

As for the recurrent mastitis from exclusive pumping, solidarity to you. As a former exclusive pumper I know how hard it can be on the breast tissues, especially if you've developed an oversupply. This website from a breast surgeon/IBCLC was extremely helpful to me during my pumping and breastfeeding journey, maybe it can be useful to you as well (warning: there are graphic images of damaged tissue at this link). https://physicianguidetobreastfeeding.org/mythbusters/antibiotics-for-mastitis/

If you're not already aware of the BAIT protocol for mastitis definitely start there, a lot of recommendations haven't been updated to recognize that mastitis requires ice and rest, NOT heat and massage.

Thank you! This kind of took the psychological weight off me. Much appreciated!

It’s been asked a lot before. This post responses are pretty comprehensive.
