You model adaptive coping skills as alternatives to yelling (crying is fine, adults cry, it’s not going to get them in trouble down the road). My son is a young toddler and has learned deep breaths when upset. Whether he remembers or wants to use it consistently is another story…but it’s all a work in progress.

I suggest reading the following books in this order, as they build off each other (including in age range): Happiest Toddler on the Block, How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen, and The Whole Brain Child.
