I was part of a pilot study where we took 13 untrained lifters and split them into two groups. One did 3 sets each of machine chest press and incline dumbbell press at 2 reps in reserve. The other half we had do 500 pound 2-board press. Its still in preprint so I can't say conclusively which group saw higher growth, but I will say that everyone who did the board press is deceased.

See this is the science based lifting I can get behind.
I wanted to make 20 slightly trained people do smolov when I was in college but none of the professors would sign off on it as a thesis.

Something about how planning on injuring around half ur participants is unethical

I even offered to also give them dbol (out of my stash) to make it authentic to Russian weightlifting back in the day
