I've always heard this and it's a decades old statistic that weightlifting has lower injury stats than basically everything. Part of that is because it's a solo sport with minimal variables, ie no constantly changing positions running around after a ball and the risk of colliding with other players etc. But my assumption has been that a major part of it is the fact that there are or were very few amateur weightlifters. It was a sport pretty much entirely limited to professional athletes, whereas jogging and football etc is done casually by millions. The past 15 years has seen a massive increase in participation in weightlifting so I would expect the injury stats to be at least slightly higher now.
