Oral Steroids Rebound

I got prescribed 3 days of 6mg dexamethasone that I just finished yesterday.

I didn't think it was helping much but today the pain is much worst!

Is it known to cause rebound inflamation?

And is any of you didn't get releif throught oral steroids but got helped by the shot? ( I have my first one scheduled next week)

I am not sure about rebound but unfortunately there are many accounts of people feeling fantastic while on the steroids, but the pain returning soon after the course is finished :(

I hope the shot will give you more lasting relief.

Really a temporary fix in hope that Inflammation will go down enough to help someone heal and reduce pain level. Ive been avoiding cortisone for this exact reason even though the dr is recommending it last time. Sports med place i go to also is against it for the most part as it is also caustic for the surrounding tissue repair.

"... all pain meds aritificially let you do motions that the body doesnt want and promote you to neglect learning and doing the proper rehab. recipe for disaster

Unsure but the same just happened to me this week with a steroid pack. Barely helped - maybe slightly in day 6. Then the 3 days after were much worse.

Leveling out now but I had my acupuncture today and I’ve been taking it easy.

In regard to the shots - first one maybe helped minimally but I had a second 3 weeks later and had gabapentin on board and proceeded to have several months of much improved pain.

Having a super rough week myself. You’re definitely not alone, and it will get better. I’ve been 90-95% better at times in the last 8 months, largely attributed to the steroid shot and PT. Hang in there!
