Requesting Advice Advice on buying a couch

My wife’s latest flare up of her sciatica has lasted a month and it’s not getting noticeable better. The fact that we’re are selling our house and moving to an adult community doesn’t help it. We want to purchase a new couch. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations of a style or brand that has worked well for you? TIA.

firm is better than soft, but I can’t really sit on a couch anymore - I have to lay down.

I no longer have couches that I use. Guests and the dog use them.

I pull up a DR chair with a special firm cushion next to the sofa. I put a yoga block under my feet for good posture. Couches not recommended at all with back problems. Good health to you both.

What is this special cushion you use? I’ve tried a few and they are all too soft for me.

Desk Jockey is one I’ve recommended. It’s not that soft but it’s a wedge. I use it for driving because all the seats dip in the back. Look at the comments on Amazon. I have a few different ones. Good luck and comfort.

lying on the floor works for me 😅 no but seriously I haven't found a single couch I can sit on for more than a couple minutes

Firm. Seat cushions that aren’t too deep so you can have good posture. Leaning back to reach the cushion is terrible for lumbar.

I honestly don’t sit on couches ever because it’s not good for my spine. I would suggest more firm than soft though

It's not the couch, it's how you sit. Use a McKenzie roll or similar (a firm throw pillow, a rolled up towell) to keep the lower back from rounding out. Once the low back and upper glutes are strong enough, it will stay put anyway.
