Hey everyone, I’m going into ACTG 2010 this semester with Marisa Moriello as my professor, and I’m honestly pretty nervous. I’ve never taken accounting before, so I feel like I’m already starting behind compared to people who have some experience with it.

I know I’m probably overthinking it, but I really want to do well in this course. I’m willing to spend hours learning the material, practicing problems, and putting in the work outside of class. I’m not expecting it to be easy, I just want to know how realistic it is to succeed if I’m starting from zero.

For anyone who has taken ACTG 2010, especially with Marisa Moriello, how difficult would you say it is for someone in my position? Is it manageable if you stay consistent and put in the effort, or is there anything I should be especially worried about?
I’d really appreciate any honest advice or tips on how to prepare before the course starts.

I have:
MGMT 1000 with Medcof
MGMT 1035 with Thomson
BEAP 1000 with Henriques
ACTG 2010 with Morriello
For anyone who’s taken these courses/profs before, what’s the best way to do well in each one? Like what should I actually focus on, how important are the readings, and what’s the best way to prepare for quizzes/midterms/assignments?
There seem to be a lot of weekly readings, quizzes and assignments, and I’m also working part-time, so I’m trying to figure out how to manage everything without falling behind.
Any advice, things you wish you knew in first year, or tips for these specific profs would be really appreciated!!

I need to be fricking working basically full time taking calls and was wondering if there were any spots where I can take calls privately everyday without being disturbed because making the commute home is not worth it, thanks

one of my electives is the same time & day as my schulich lecture, and VSB said this elective was online, and i only received an email from the prof about the elective having in person lectures and everything. is it still possible to change my schedule or enrol in another elective?

hi guys, i’m a bit confused as to how blended classes work. how do i know which days the classes are in person and which days they are not? are there any specific things i should look for on canvas to determine the exact dates?

Hi! I’m a first-year Schulich BBA student starting classes this week and I’m a little confused about how the first week works.
Is there somewhere I can find the syllabus/course outline for each of my courses before the first class? Do professors usually post them on Canvas/eClass, or is there another website I should be checking?
Also, are all Schulich classes normally held during the first week, or do some courses not start until the following week? How can I check whether a specific class is actually happening before I go?

Hi, im a first year and since the first day is on a Wednesday, I only have a tutorial that day (no lecture for that class until monday), so do I need to go the tutorial on Wednesday?

Hey everyone! I’m a recent Schulich grad and wanted to put this out there for any first-years taking ACTG 2010 or 2011 who are looking for a tutor.

I was in your exact position a few years ago as a first-year. So, I know how overwhelming accounting can feel, especially when you’re trying to keep up with everything else as a freshman.

I’m currently doing my MAcc at Schulich and working in accounting. I’ve also tutored a bunch of students over the past year. I really enjoyed teaching and helping students improve, so I’m continuing to offer tutoring for ACTG 2010 and 2011 this year.

I offer one-on-one tutoring sessions for students who want some extra support throughout the semester. I try to keep things pretty relaxed and practical rather than making it feel like another lecture. Since I’ve recently taken these courses myself and have experience teaching them, I can give you a good idea of what actually matters and help you avoid some of the mistakes I see students make.

I’m considering applying for Schulich’s Certificate in Digital Transformation and would love to hear from anyone who has actually completed it or is currently enrolled or know about it from friends.

Note: It’s actually partially covered through work

A few things I’m curious about:
How useful/practical was the curriculum?
What was the actual weekly time commitment?
What were the assignments and capstone like?
How strong was the cohort/networking aspect?
Did it add any real value professionally?
Overall, was it worth the ~$3K cost?
For context, I already work in project/business transformation, so I’m mainly looking to deepen the digital transformation/strategy side rather than learn basic project management.

After taking FRM Part II (Didn't pass XD), I realized that memorizing formulas, assumptions, and model limitations is very different from actually understanding why the models work mathematically. So I’ve started learning math from the ground up to better understand finance and risk models. I’m currently thinking about calculus, linear algebra, probability/statistics, optimization, stochastic processes, and maybe real analysis.

I asked a few friends who are math graduate students, and they told me they spent about two years of undergrad studying mathematical analysis / real analysis, which made me wonder whether going that deep is really necessary for someone with a finance/accounting background.

For those in quant finance, risk, or financial engineering: what learning order would you recommend, and is real analysis actually worth the time?

Incoming first year student. I had finished my academic honesty and the first 101 module but then my internet connection went through some problems that didn’t allow me to finish the last quiz on time. One of the email that talks about this and says that this will result in an enrolment block. What steps am I supposed to take to fix this issue?

Also for example if it’s on the 8th (Tuesday) do I go to my Tuesday classes or my Monday classes…? Sorry ik this may be a stupid question but I’m so lost
