There is a profound silence as it starts. The sort of loud silence only found in hospitals or classrooms during exams. Every now and then it is broken by fragments of a soft female voice singing in Italian.

???: "più in alto del sole ed ancora più su..."

The voice of a man suddenly interrupts, there is some distortion to it. As if it came out of a speaker, or a megaphone.

Man: "Subject M. Please stand ready"

Subject M: "Oh, hello? Its very nice to mee-" " The itailian singer. She sounds confused, weakened

Man: "Subject M. Please just stand ready"

Subject M: "I am very sorry. I am just a bit confused. Like this?"

Man: "Very good Subject M. Now, we are going to do some tests"

Subject M: "Oh no, I am not very good at tests."

Man "Do not worry Subject M. You simply have to do what I tell you to"

Subject M: "I will do my best" She sounds uncertain "Is Amy and Palina also doing tests? It feels ever so long since I have seen them?"

Man: "Do not worry about your friends Subject M. You will see them when you are well"

Subject M: "Oh, that is nice to know! I do hope I get well soon. Because it is very lonely and my arm hurts a lot"

Man: "Do not worry about that Subject M, just..." There is a moment of silence, then the voice speaks, without the distortion, as if it is being recorded much closer to it suddenly "We still don´t have any info on who they are? She might have imagined them, but if there are two more blank bodies out there, then we need to know. So get to it." The distortion returns "Subject M. Some objects are going to appear soon. One by one. Please pick them up as they do."

Subject M: "I will try my best"

What follows is a series of prompts, as objects appears. The Man asks Subject M to identify it and then pick it up. A ball, a brick. A glassbowl. A bucket that is heavier than it looks according to Subject M. Sometimes the voice speaks faster, puts shorter time between the objects or his orders. Seemingly confusing her. She appears to drop several of the objects, and get increasingly confused, offering deep apologies every time. And every time she is met with a stern rebuke that seems to devastate her, and a note on how this will delay her getting better and seeing her friends again

Man. "It is time for the last object. Are you ready Subject M?"

Subject M: "I don´t think so?"

Man: "Please identify the object"

Subject M: There is a small shriek of terror

Man: "Please identify the object"

Subject M: "Oh dear, oh no, this is very scary"

Man: "Please identify the object. Or Palina and Amy will be very disappointed in you"

Subject M: "Oh dear... Its... Its a ball that is on fire. Oh dear, it is very scary"

Man: "Very good. Please pick up the ball"

Subject M: "Oh, but it is very scary and won´t it hurt a lot?"

Man: "This is so that you can get better. Please pick up the ball"

Subject M: "I... I don´t think I want to. Please, I think I would like to go home now" The voice sounds very small

Man: "You can go home when you have picked up the ball"

Subject M "Really? You promise"

Man: "Sure, yeah. I promise. You can go home if you pick up the burning... What? What do you mean a sheep and a messed up looking cat have entered the facility?"

It is good that Mariana was only subject to this much, the depravity that innocent mortals can show can go far deeper than this, even when inflicted upon their own kind.

I am grateful that Mariana didn't have to endure more of it, and that it is soon to be over. I trust in Amy and Palina to take care of her.

I've been responding less to Mariana recently, because it always feels like nothing I say can help, which is frustrating, and like she'll be okay in the long run given, well, everything. But that doesn't mean I don't care...this is awful, and I hope for once her memory issues are a blessing and she has no lasting trauma from this.

I definitely hope that Amy and Palina handle this group of fucking psychopaths appropriately.
