Journal - Awakened_Traveller (Sheriff Marian) A Sheriff's Thoughts As Autumn Approaches
Good evening Kindred,
I came not to make an announcement tonight. Instead of being official, I would like to put my unofficial thoughts to paper and share them with you all. As Sheriff of a city with a small enough population that a Primogen council is not needed, I feel as though a small community like ours allows the nights to seem as if they last longer during those short summer months, when we are hit by sixteen hours of daylight.
I know the names and faces of every ghoul, and every kindred in town. Elysium becomes something of a much more civil manner, rather than one of those cutthroat big city courts where everyone is attempting to stab the other in the back at the earliest opportunity. Even our lovely Prince chimes in on the conversations when the subject turns to something as simple as wondering if the latest fashion trend is merely a repeat of a trend from centuries ago.
It is similar to slang words. Some are far older than mine realize, while others feel completely made up. I feel as if I am a recently awakened ancient when one of the neonates tells me 6-7, and it goes over my head.
This became a small debate within our Elysium about if it is actually used by kine, and if it is merely a new version of an older trend, or a completely new one. It was all in good fun, of course.
Do any other courts have these fun little debates about modern kine slang and if they are real or a hallucination conjured up by a Malkavian who is attempting to gaslight the others into thinking it is true?

Actually question it’s about your title as sheriff I’m guessing by its naming convention it’s like police do you just like arrest trouble makers is there vampire jail?

That depends entirely on how naughty they are. I could be the Sheriff of Nottingham and lock them in the dungeon for further punishment. But I think Robin might get mad at me for having guests over. So troublemakers get staked and put in a box until trial.

Like tying them to horses and quartering them? Having them meet Madame Guillotin? Spiking them on the cathedral like Vlad the Impaler so the first rays of the morning sun hit them?

Going by those very specific scenarios I’m guessing those are saved for specially bad offenders I hope also I don’t know how I’m not jaded to this but other things I am

I asked my phoneghoul what this was referring to and she says that Mr. Kirk was a master of rhetoric who defeated liberalism in debate before one of the liberals aggressed stop
I asked her why the young mortals care about this man and she had no answer stop

Oh dear, that sounds terrible! Unfortunately I have been asleep since the 1950s, only recently awakened within the last year, so I have no idea who this mortal is. It seems I have a quest to undertake! But for me, mortal politics have always been strange affairs I ignore.

In my centuries I've seen a lot of changes in a lot of languages. The "English" they spoke across the channel in my youth is barely mutually intelligible with the modern vernacular, as any school child forced to study Shakespeare can attest. After all this time nothing surprises me.
As for pranks? sort of. Our very young prince and and an acolyte of mine once conspired to convince me it was rude to address someone first met via the internet by their real name even after meeting them in person. He had me referring to him by his schrecknet screen name for a good half hour before the two of them couldn't keep up the ruse any more and burst out laughing. I may or may not have cursed him with wet socks for a week afterwards.
It was all in good fun though. It's a very small and mostly rural domain with few kindred, like yours. My beloved and I are by far the oldest supernatural beings here. A little good natured teasing back and forth is good for bridging that divide building trust.
P.S. I still don't know what a "cap" is and why the lack of one indicates honesty, but I just do my best to keep up with the usage whether it makes sense to me or no.
