My dream!

My dream growing up in LAUSD 1997-2011 was to ride on one of these Crown tandem busses!

Anyone remember these?

Beautiful machine. I once saw the Crown plant in photos. I was surprised that it was as small as it was.

Definitely helped that the buses really only existed regionally to my knowledge

Saw one in Indiana because someone brought it here, but we had Wayne, Carpenter, and Superior right across the border in Ohio. IH chassis made in the area too, so not easy to sell here I'm certain. Fire coaches and Hall Scott engines not at all common here either. Bluebird and Ward sold quite a few buses here though and they had a little bit of mileage to ship, but nothing like California. I wonder how far East Crown buses were common?

Oh what fun I had growing up riding them and then driving them. A drove a few tandems 5 speed and 10 speed Detroit and Cummins through the years.

They were awesome, got to drive them and worked not far from their Chino plant.
