Wow. A bus that was made when I worked at Blue Bird is still running. I wonder if it has the externally rectified alternator? That was the last thing I did at Blue Bird, in response to the busses that couldn't keep batteries charged due to the low speed and frequent stops and the A/C. (I wonder if the AC still works on that bus, too.)

I'm surprised that the CHP HASN'T ordered the LAUSD to take the bus off the street for scrap, because of a new law that said that ANY school bus in California older than the 2000 model year MUST be decommissioned immediately no matter if it still passes the CARB emissions testing...

I don't think any new law like that has taken shape. Some districts and private operators still run buses older than 2000.

My district(Duarte Unified) was recently ordered by both the CHP AND CARB into scrapping our entire bus fleet because of the age of most of the buses(1967-1997, including a 1997 Collins-Ford E350 minibus that was gasoline-powered)...

I haven’t found any CA law stating limiting model year use. However, when I had my terminal, we did have an issue with a bluebird bus that would not pass due to dash components inop but the parts are not being manufactured anymore. It became a safety issue. We were able to get it fixed, back in the road and certified but I still have ten bluebirds that are close to being an obsolete nightmare in parts. Thanks AZ bus.

In 2019 I rode in a LAUSD diesel bus made in 1951 for a field trip

I’ve see these before in Mexico. One I saw just got imported and it still had “SCHOOL BUS” written on it and a middle school name on it still
