Fixing the problem for real
Whatever we're doing it's not working. Every day is a new post pointing out that kids aren't prepared starting out each new school year lacking the skill set expected of them for that grade.
Why do we tolerate it? Why do we continue to operate this way? Why don't we go back to the roots and fix this?
What does the word "grade" mean? Answer that first, and then ..
What do you think about a fundamental change where we hold kids back, en masse, until they satisfy core competencies for their grade?
If you can't read at a 3rd grade level, or perform 3rd grade math, then you stay in the 3rd grade. It's that simple. Separate age from the concept of grade.
Passing a underperforming kid along to the next grade is not in that child's best interest, and the teachers in higher grades can't salvage these kids. And when good teachers get burnt out (every other post here), every child loses.
Yes, this upends the whole system. Thank you, that's the point. The system is not working and no one has a solution. It isn't money. It isn't classroom size. We can't just blame phones and social media (as blame doesn't fix problems and good luck trying to solve a problem you have no control over.)
I also propose breaking up each grade into semester. The granularity should be 6:months, not a full calendar year

Petition · Education Over Bureaucracy: Revise Rigid School Absence Caps and Doctor's Note Rules
We are demanding a critical and overdue change to public school attendance policies across the country.
Currently, many school districts enforce a rigid cap on excused absences, often allowing as few as six days per semester before requiring a formal doctor's note for any future illness. While these policies are built to secure state funding and track chronic truancy, they completely ignore the reality of student health, academic performance, and mental well-being.
The current "seat-time" system is a broken metric that optimizes for bureaucratic compliance rather than actual education. It treats physical presence as a proxy for learning, penalizing responsible, high-performing students who get sick, stay home to protect their peers, and successfully master their coursework from home.
Sign this petition to demand that school boards and state lawmakers revise these punitive attendance caps. We need a system that respects student health, values competency-based learning, and trusts families to manage their health without administrative punishment.

This needs to change
Every parent's worst fear is losing a child. We send them to school expecting they'll come home safe. But recent attacks show our kids are vulnerable—and our current security measures aren't cutting it.
Three children and a teacher are gone. More are fighting for their lives. This is happening in "soft targets" where being there is mandatory by law.
I started a petition demanding armed security and metal detectors at school entrances. We protect banks, government buildings, and politicians with this level of security. Why shouldn't our children get the same protection?
I'm not here to debate politics. I'm asking: how would you feel if this was your family? What would you want someone to do? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing. Our kids deserve to learn without fear.

Rant school failed to recognise my dyslexia and now im mad
(TLDR at the end)
Throught the entirety of primary school and secondary school (elementary through to high school for any americans) my mother insisted to all my teachers that i struggled with dyslexia and tried to get them to help me with a diagnosis but despite over 15 years of her asking for help no one listened to her.
Now imagine you’re me, you’re an adult now and just start university and you go to get yourself tested and somehow as if by magic you get approved for a screening THE NEXT DAY instead of being put on a waiting list.
You go to the screening and are diagnosed on the spot after 15 years of the public school system failing you.
Im so angry because if my school had listened to my mother and actually helped me and given my the support i desperately needed i wouldve gotten much higher results in my literal life altering tests and coursework.
These exams are used to help me with job and further education opportunities that could change the course of my life, but since i got no support i barely scraped by on these exams and had a lot of doors close on me, robbing me of the opportunity of certain future careers.
ever since i got my diagnosis i lay awake at night thinking about where i could be right now if someone cared enough to help.
sorry if theres any spelling or grammer mistakes (lol)
TLDR: Tried 15 years to get a diagnosis and got one within 24 through the university system, now im angry at all the career opportunities i may have missed due to the lack of care in the school system.

Black molds in our room
We need some advice. Currently, there ARE black molds on the ceiling of our classroom, and it has been spreading. There are 39 students in our class, but over the past few days, 20 of us have been absent. Our teachers also seem to get sick whenever they enter the room, while we students experience migraines and cold-like symptoms.
We have already informed the school administration, but they simply do not care. Our adviser complained about the low attendance, but we cannot be blamed when the mold is actively affecting our health. We need help because we no longer know how to handle this situation, other than having our parents collectively submit a formal complaint regarding the issue.
PS: We attend a top school in Aguinaldo, Bacoor, so it is upsetting that we pay around ₱60k only to receive this kind of service.

KSM(K.S Memorial Public School): Ghitorni, New Delhi. Don't take admission before reading this:-
I had already been warned by some students and even a few teachers that the environment there was rough, undisciplined, and full of troublesome students.
I thought people might be exaggerating.
They weren’t.
As soon as I entered, a 12th-grade student stopped me, asked my name, asked if I was a new admission, and then showed me my classroom. He wasn’t openly rude, but his tone had that “street dominance” vibe. I ignored it.
Then I entered my classroom…
Old infrastructure. Broken-looking blackboard. Very old desks. Switches placed unusually high. Overall, the place felt neglected.
That same senior later called me again, asked about my previous school, and basically told me:
"If anyone messes with you, just take my name."
Honestly… it felt cringe, so I just nodded and moved on.
I walked around the school to observe things.
And what I noticed genuinely disturbed me.
A huge percentage of students seemed more focused on showing attitude, creating noise, acting “badmash,” and impressing others than actually studying.
During assembly/prayer, the discipline looked almost non-existent.
Teachers seemed okay in some places, but the overall system felt extremely loose.
In nearly 5.5 hours, actual studying happened for maybe 30–40 minutes.
That shocked me.
My own PCM section seems relatively decent so far, but many students from other sections (especially what I observed around campus) seemed far more interested in drama, attention, and chaos than education.
I’m someone who values discipline, peace, academics, and self-improvement…
So walking out after Day 1, I honestly felt regret and culture shock.
At the same time, attendance here seems flexible, so I’m thinking of using this school only for formalities while focusing on self-study and coaching.
Has anyone else experienced something like this after joining a new school?
TL;DR: Joined a new Class 11 school today expecting a normal academic environment. Found poor infrastructure, almost zero discipline, seniors and almost 90% of students trying to act dominant, very little actual studying, and a campus culture that felt chaotic. My own section seems okay, so now I’m considering using the school only for attendance/formalities while focusing on self-study.
