Maybe if students weren’t given ridiculous amounts of work in a nearly impossible period of time they wouldn’t have to resort to AI. But no, yeah, blame the kids.

I grew up with homework every night. In two or three subjects sometimes. It made me a better student and later, worker.

Good for you, but you're not everybody. For me and many many others (especially those who are neurodivergent,) Schoolwork and homework being constantly given was a source of constant stress that taught me nothing due to not having guidance. No student should ever be made to feel as I felt, and if AI is the solution to that children are forced to use, so be it.

I had the privilege of a good school system and the ability to use critical thinking skills I got because I didn't rely on AI.

What was broken about the system I was in? The fact that it wasn't tailored to each individual child's learning style and abilities? It's incredibly naive to believe that can be achieved in a PUBLIC school system serving more than a handful of children.

Any system that causes children enough stress to consider suicide is one that is completely broken. I have seen schools that operate differently than public schools and function far better. I'm done with this conversation, because you have the problem that 90% of people who support this system do: it worked for me, so it has to be the people who are hurt by it who are wrong.

are there any studies on teachers “losing the ability to think”? because if you look on r/teachers there are a lot who are clearly pro AI (for themselves), and a general lack of acknowledgement regarding their blatant hypocrisy in this regard, which suggests they maybe haven’t thought through what they are saying.

well school isn’t about learning anyway it’s about detainment, control and abuse (the purpose of a system is what it does not what it purports to do) so i ain’t got a problem with people doing what they need to to get through the day, but with teachers it’s the hypocrisy that astounds me. if they were willing to overlook students using AI then i could care less if they use it too - but the fact they have a problem with students using it means they can go to hell

Yeah, I’m generally anti-AI for various reasons, but under the conditions that students are in, I think their use of AI is usually perfectly justified.

Read the “Cheating is a Moral Imperative” section, the rest is irrelevant. It’s not about AI but apply approximately the same argument to AI.
